Too many damaged DVD's are sent out, leaving consumers to perform the quality control function

I ordered "Enchanted", which was released this week to have on Easter Sunday for the children gathered at my house to watch before Easter dinner. The film arrived in the mail Saturday (yesterday). I tried to preview the film and found the disc severely damaged. I have reported the DVD of "Enchanted" as damaged and I have returned it.

There is no place within Nexflix to enter comments when reporting a damaged DVD (because I suspect they do not want to hear the comments of subscribers in these matters). I am reporting my displeasure here because Netflix does not have a place to enter comments on consumer satisfaction.

I would like simply to state how very disappointed I am. I have received several DVD's in the past with spots that skip, but these are older releases that I presume have been handled, or mishandled several times. I can not fathom how "Enchanted", which is a new release THIS WEEK, could be sent in such a badly damaged, thorougly unwatchable condition. I had rented this film to show the children gathered at my house for Easter and they are excited to see it.

My main thought at this time is, thank God for Blockbuster Video. While Blockbuster is more expensive, I can count on renting merchandise that is in good condition, which is what I have had to do this morning with "Enchanted" so that I do not disappoint my guests.

That must have been very frustrating for you!! I'm sure if the people here were in a similar predicament they too would be upset. Fortunately for most of the people who post here, NF is totally awesome, and they don't ever, EVER have problems... you would think some of them would still be able to feel compassion though... weird.

For most it is

and they don't ever, EVER have problems...
Just because most of those who post here like Netflix doesn't mean they don't ever, EVER have problems. Not so sure of the accuracy of that statement. And not sure how that conclusion was derived. Love for Netlix does not mean we don't experience problems.

Sure we feel compassion for those who receive poor service. And we would encourage those who receive poor service to contact customer service. We just don't give too much love to those who create duplicate posts, proliferate negative agendas, and otherwise spread wonton cynicism. It makes for an unfriendly and stinky forum.

The damaged disks are one thing they send out which I have been required to purchase a repair kit just to repair the movies to watch them, but I have at least once a week 1 or 2 disks that have sticky food spots on them that I have to clean off, and whenever I have brought this up they appologize and say it must have slipped through, scratches ad fingerprints are one thing and depending on your player may or may not work, but food on both sides making the disk hard to pull from the sleeve is entirely another, this only proves NF does not check any disk before it goes out. I too have had new releases that were scratched 2 days after release, luckily I bought the repair kit or I would never have a movie to watch.

First of all, that's just gross. Secondly, it's interesting that this happens to you once or twice every week. I have been a member for 8 years, and have only had 2-3 disks that were unplayable in that entire period.

There have been posts here that show videos of the process the discs go through before being sent out. Each disc is examined by a worker before being resleeved. I know this doesn't jibe with your statements that you have sticky food spots on your discs once or twice a week, but the frequency of food on your discs just seems odd to me. You can search for the videos and see for yourself the inspection process. Not sure what Netlfix would gain by allowing unplayable discs to go out.

I know your new to this site, Average, and prolly came out here just to find some support for what your problems seem to be, but if you click on the Forums tab you'll find a forum devoted to this kind of complaint called Complaints, Gripes & Unfocused Rage . I'm certain you'll find quite a few threads dedicated to these problems.

Like Spindaddy, I almost never experience the problems with playing discs and have NEVER had the gross food problem you're talking about. I've only been a member for three years, so bow to SpinDad's long term experience.

In recent months, we have found that 1 out of every 3 movies we receive from Netflix is unplayable. In nearly all cases, the problems were obviously not caused by USPS. In one case, the move had been cracked and glued back together. USPS might damage a movie, but not attempt repairs through sealed envelopes. In other cases, chunks of who knows what were encrusted onto the DVD or the DVD had visible scratches. Processing by USPS does not cause scratches. If Netflix employees were truly inspecting the DVDs as they claim, it would have been obvious that they needed to clean these before shipping them. We're likely going to close our account. With the additional time to replace all the damaged DVDs, it's not a good value anymore.
