I saw Dawn of the Dead at the theater with my husband and didn't get much sleep that night. More disturbing than scary. The zombie baby bothered me. Scariest movie had to be Halloween back in the day because of my age and I wasn't really used to kids being in scary movies, it bothered me.
I used to say it was the Exorcist but over the last half dozen to a dozen times seeing it... I started to think it wasn't all that at all. I actually can't stand the first hour of the movie at all. The movie that does however still tend to get me after all these years is The Shining. There is just something about that damn hotel and Jack Nicholson that freaks me out.
I think the scariest movie I've ever seen was the exorcist. It brought a whole new meaning to scary because of the fact that the girl was possesed and the fact that it was based on a true story. The fact that something is watching you and you can not see it even if it is right in front of you is pretty scary to me.
The scariest film I've ever seen is Freak Show. It's a very old film, I think 1930's.
NetFlix doesn't have it. I saw it in a film class, senior year of college.
It's considered the very first independent film and had a strong influence on
David Lynch. The film looks very contemporary actually, if I didn't know it was made so long ago I could have said it was made a couple years ago with a b/w film.
It feels very much like a David Lynch film.
The ending is really F*cked up, unexpected and will haunt you.
Are you refering to the movie Tod Browning's Freaks? Netflix has it. Or is there some Freak Show movie I don't know about? Sorry can't hyperlink, I'm getting hijacked every time.
Mine is a tie between Poltergeist and a rag called Deathship. There's a scene in both with people "swimming" with dead bodies. My skin crawls at the thought.
Of course, The Exorcist has to be in the top five of all time.
