What do you still want to see on the Netflix site? (Let's leave out the obvious few since we know about them and know how much you want them: >500 things in queue, 1/2 stars, mac-based instant watching, linux support, 7-day shipping, etc.)
Queue notes to self. This was discussed a long time ago on the Blog, and I think it's one of the best ideas that was brought up (Not by me). These would be for when you add an obscure movie to your queue, and want to leave a note to yourself about why you added it (If you plan to watch it months from now). For best functionality, it would have to be pop-up style, like the current "Add Note" box is on movie pages.
Friend Search and Add functionality. I have run into the problem of wanting to add someone as a friend, and not being able to because I do not have their email. It is frustrating, because we are already FANS of each other, and I cannot befriend him/her. So, there should be some kind of "Ping", or non-friend note, to alert someone that you want to be their friend. You shouldn't have to do some convoluted thing to get in touch with them. Also, it would be good to find friends who are similar to you. Search by Location/State, Similarity, etc.
Small Search improvements. Some people might have better ideas for ways to improve searches on Netflix, but I loved the improvement of "Suggestions". Meaning, while you are typing a title, it finishes what you are typing for you. Why not make this function with Actors/Directors names? It seems simple to me... I find myself searching for certain actors as much as I do certain films.
If I think of more, I will come back here for sure. Everything you mentioned up top sounds good too. Especially the queue size increase and 1/2 Stars.
Queue notes to self would be wonderful! We sit down to watch a movie and ask "Why did we rent this one?" I'd love to be able to put a note next to it about who recommended it to me.
Ability to break up reviews in to multiple paragraphs!!! Having reviews as one big long paragraph is hard to read and probably discourages a lot of people from reading anything longer than a few sentences.
Also, it'd be nice if we had bold, italic, underline support, and possibly support for links. I could see these being abused however, so maybe it's not a good idea. Paragraphs ARE a good idea though. See, if I had written this as one big paragraph it would have been harder to read, and not grammatically correct.
Her Noise, great to know, thanks. I tried it with <P> and <BR> tags too (for line breaks) and it seemed to work at first, then it replaced it with bare P and BR in the text.
Enhance the profile pages to encourage personalization and film viewer blogging, with the ability to embed Netflix-hosted trailers, and Youtube clips, something like the user pages here on ning.
I could even do without Youtube clips and such if it slows the site too much and costs too much, but I agree on making it more social orientated. We have profile pages and such with more interaction for general (MySpace, Facebook), for music (Last.fm, IMEEM), for photos (MyPhotoAlbum, Fokti), for art (Deviantart), etc., but not really for movies, and why not?
I think making it more fun to be on page would be an incitive for more people to choose between Blockbuster and Netflix, etc. I mean, look at how many people visit this forum alone. People enjoy bonding over their hobbies in one place. We can see what they have in their queue and such, but we could spruce up the profile pages A LOT MORE. It may slow things down slightly, but I would stand the difference.
AND, it's simple, if you don't want this feature and it ends up added, just don't use that area.
I would like to have a way to see what a fan/fave's sim% would be to me if I was able to add him/her as a friend, just out of curiosity, I guess. Or better yet, it would be great if the similarity percentages were more accurate and didn't change so drastically when someone is moved from a fave/fan to a friend, or vice versa.
Because I tend to watch the movie from 1962 that only 50 people have rated rather than the latest blockbuster, I have had an extraordinarily large number of discs shipped from out of state. It would be super nice if Netflix would give the option to choose whether to send it from out of state or just go onto the next one in my queue. I know, realistically, this will never happen since most people are not nearly as on top of their queues as I am and it would bog down the whole works. But since we're talking wish list....
