A Netflix Community

Over 150 titles (currently known) are going to expire between September 3rd & October 1st.

The list of the titles can be found here:

Instant Watch Titles that will expire on X date. (May-December, 2008)

Found a title that will be expiring (the only way right now, is through individual Queues)? Please post them here (first check the list if it is not already listed) or I invite you to join the group and post it to the existing thread.

If you use the Watch Instant feature on Netflix, then the Watch Instant group is for you!

Thanks Wowwee. I moved three movies I had up in the Q to the top to make the Sept 15 deadline!

You're welcome! Now all you need is now to join the group too. Also, start contributing the titles found in your Queue, that is not listed & will be expiring.

Expiration date: This is obviously very important information. If you could find a way that these dates are prominently attached to each title in the Your Queue (Instant sub-section) this would make this much easier for customers to take advantage. I note there is an "Expected Availability" heading which is currently empty. So presumably someone at Netflix is thinking about this already?

Thanks

The reason that it is blank by a given title is, that there is no expiration date for that title (at the time). Just like your regular queue (with the wait times/saved titles). The dates are attached via the list and only appears if someone adds the title to their queue and posts the information to the thread. The list is now the only way to prominently attach dates to titles.

I hope this answers your question.

Forgive me if this question is answered somewhere else, but I really want to know...
Why do titles expire in the first place? More than once now I put a movie in my IW queue, and I get caught up doing things, and come back and the movie is gone, and I am unable to watch it unless I get the DVD. Any explanation would be appreciated.
( Plus, I am unable to find that information on the Netflix FAQ is it there, and I am just doing something wrong? )

Electronic distribution rights are bought for a period, unlike physical DVD's where Netflix owns the disc. Lets say Netflix buys the electronic rights to a title for a year, at the end of the year Netflix can look to see how often it is being watched and how many people have it in queue. The choice is to extend the rights for that title or to obtain rights to a new title that is going to get more views.
