A Netflix Community

We just updated the web site with a big change that we have been working on for months, all the pages are in a wider frame, so we can show more movies or bigger box-shots. The Browse DVD and Browse Instant pages are completely new and follow a similar row based format that personalizes choices for each user. Most other pages have cosmetic upgrades with the new wide "look". Some less used pages just have extra white space on the right side for now.

There was a known problem with Blue-Ray and HD-DVD users, a column of information that shows the format and allows you to change it should be shown in the queue for these users only, and it didn't appear. This was fixed, along with a few less visible issues Friday morning March 28th.

We are very interested to know what you all think of the changes, we are going to continue to tinker with it as we figure out how well its working. Many thanks for all the comments and discussion we have had here. Over-all we are very happy with how it is going.

I'd also like to assure everyone that this big update has nothing to do with the downtime on monday, they are totally unrelated. One lingering after-affect of the downtime is that some users don't have their ratings available the first time they visit, so the site doesn't make good suggestions. Apologies for this problem, it will get better over time.

Enjoy...

What happened to the ability to see if a movie was HD, Blue ray or SD in the queue? I base my queue order on that information.

Noted as an issue. Sorry for the inconvenience.

For now, if you bring up the movie display page and click on the InQueue button the popup says what other formats are available if you want to change or check.

I'm upgrading this to "we are working to fix this problem" :-)
I don't yet know how long it will take.

The changes don't make a big difference to me. A little cleaner perhaps but functionally the same.

The only thing I did really notice was the format missing from the queue. That's something which I always use so that needs to come back ASAP.

Just looked at it and all I can say so far, wow. Daddy likey. Likey a lot. Especially when I logged on and it said hello to me. And the recommendations by the genres, I like. Holy crap, this is going to be a whole new experience, kind of like that time the monkey in the corner of my room promised me it wouldn't hurt, but then it did, the devilsh little bastard, he promised.

Now if I could just get my movies processed quickly and some new releases mixed in with the older movies they send me, that would make me happy.

(Sorry sorry sorry)

Micro, you know what the monkey in your closet does when you're not there, right?

I keep smelling something when I get home, it's this acrid smell. Someone told me once that they think it's pot, but where would a monkey get pot?

This will have to take some getting used to...

I find the page a little infantile at first glance.... it looks like it was made for stroke victims to practice hand and eye coordination.

But I do like the personalized categories.

The new IW page is awesome. Really well done.

Change is scary.

I saw the revisions this AM ("Welcome to your new home page"), but didn't have time to draw an opinion. Now the changes are gone again...

this big update has nothing to do with the downtime on monday, they are totally unrelated.

What makes this statement dubious is the small likelihood that anyone could be so completely certain of such a thing, when dealing with a system so complex, so soon after the fact.

If you had said "We have no reason at this time to believe they are related," I would buy that.

But then, maybe 'it depends on what your definition of the word "is" is.'

I'm not accusing you of prevarication, Adrian, but whoever is providing you with info is subject to certain expectations.
