Whether it was the film itself or the experience around it....
Let us know what made you go "wow!" for the first time and really wonder what this movie thing was all about, besides entertainment.....

Mine was:
I always went to movies w/ my father as a child. I never remember being asked what I wanted to see, but we rarely saw children's movies.
One day he took me to see a movie I hadn't heard of: The Right Stuff
From the graphic depictions of testing to each carefully crafted character - I was hooked.
This was something different.
I fell in love with the maverick in Yeager (Sam Shephard), the golden boy pressure of Glenn (Ed Harris); and the neglected Grissom (Fred Ward).
And it had an intermission! (This is when movies still did & you could smoke in a movie theater)
I came out of that theatre full of wonder and still weeping over the loss of the men in the fire featured only as a mere mention at the end.
This was no "Apple Dumpling Gang"

Ooh, I would have LOVED to have seen GWTW in theaters. Lucky you.

GWTW was actually one of the first movies to make an impression on me! I was named after the movie (Tara) and by the time I was 5 I had seen it so many times with my grandmother that she used to record my sister and I as we reenacted scenes from the movie. Our favorite was when she was getting ready for the Bar-B-Q at Twelve Oaks! Anyway later in life, when I saw the movie (and understood what an amazing love story it was) I truly understood why my grandmother made us watch it so many times. It was just excellent and a very powerful love story.

It was probably Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope. That movie blew my little mind.

I second Star Wars. I remember standing in line through the first showing with all the other little nerdlings. The battle sequence... and there was no going back.

the first movie to make an impression is the first movie I ever saw - THE MUPPET MOVIE. from that moment on, my todler fanny was hooked on the cinema.

I seen The Neverending Story at a young age and was totally amazed by it.

I think there's something magical about these fantasy films that completely capures a child's imagination. While we might not be able to distinguish between fantasy and reality, we at least know it isn't a cartoon and that the images at least have the potential for reality.

Okay, my mother took me to the theater to see 2001 A Space Odyssey I was 2 years old when this came out! lol Yeah, I never forgot it! It scared me but fascinated me. I didn't understand it and I'm certain my mother was probably insane but at least it didn't scare me into nightmares, I just remember being thrilled with the calm stuff like on the ship in the beginning and floating around and telephones that were like televisions! I didn't get scared until the whole apes using tools to fight and the guy went backwards into the fetus and the old man! Yikes, it was a bit much for my pea brain at the time and yeah HAL gave me the heebie jeebies by the end, but again, I never forgot that film or the movies!

It makes all the difference in the world when you see 2001 on a big screen. I watched a 70mm print at Roger Ebert's Overlooked Film festival and my mind was blown!

I agree. Especially now, that film loses it's mind blowing ability on a small screen. It is definitely a theater movie. I have to hope that the newer generations will see it's importance in film if they watch it on a large screen tv, but I still kind of doubt it. Even today, I think it remains a one of a kind film and should be seen by everyone, especially if you consider yourself a film buff.

Put's me to sleep every time I try ot watch it.....and I've paid for TWO 70mm screenings..... I can get through the cavement just fine, but the once the spacemen arrive, it's snooze city for me. Not really sure why that is....
