Okay, must admit I find romantic comedy the insipid refuge of the world weary and cloistered, but this is my own prejudice to carry (wife loves them and therefore I will stock them in the queue as decorum and restraint may dictate). All that nonsense said, are there any that appeal to folks generally who find that genre not to their liking, and....
I will kick it off by saying I think "Jerry Maguire" was such a film but cleverly tricked some into thinking it was a sports movie, to open the door. Hope I don't catch too much flack downing the romantic comedy as i am sure my war movie fascination well merits some criticism. anyway, what you think...romatic comedy for the non-fan of the genre?

If I watch romantic comedy, it's always dark if I can get it. Like Wristcutters: A Love Story but I liked Under the Tuscan Sun with Diane Lane but I like her anyways so that wasn't a stretch for me to check it out.

My idea of a romantic comedy would be Return of the Living Dead 3...My wife actually cried at one point in that one..lol

Did she cry when she saw the split dog? lol Oh never mind I just remembered you said 3! lol

Feast of Love was kind of like that for me. It's not an amazing movie, but I did enjoy it. However, I must say that it is marketed as a romantic comedy, but it is pretty heartbreaking at the same time.

I think the cast is reason enough to watch it, in my opinion. Morgan Freeman, Greg Kinnear, Selma Blair, Fred Ward.

The dialogue was really good, coming from a writer's POV.

Punch Drunk Love is one people call an unconventional romantic comedy, but i never liked it.

I guess also:
Strictly Ballroom
Sliding Doors
High Fidelity
Science of Sleep

Secretary - right up your unconventional alley

and my all time favorite, which is actually, technically, a screwball comedy (but i think that's a subgenre) is My Man Godfrey -- going classic

I love Punch Drunk Love...PT Anderson finally made a smaller movie!

maybe, also, and this is hard to say when i have no idea what you/she would like:

Shooting Fish

Greenfingers

Dear Frankie

For a more acerbic look I liked If Lucy Fell, High Fidelity, Serendipity, and America's Sweethearts (the only films that don't make me want to punch Julia Roberts and SJP). I hate romantic comedies, as a rule, but these are pretty mainstream and I got a kick out of them. Of course, the classics are still Harold and Maude and War of the Roses :-P

Harold and Maude is the most heartwarming pedophilia love story evah!! Love that Cat Stevens soundtrack too.
