What do you think is the worst movie ever made and/or which one do you passionately despise the most?
The worst that I've ever seen is definitely Plan 9 from Outer Space, but I knew that it was supposed to be terrible going in. Bloodrayne is the movie that I talk bad about the most though, since I had never experienced an Uwe Boll masterpiece before.
Well, it's hard to narrow it down to only a handful, but I'll try. I thought that Ichi The Killer was the worst movie ever made, but then I saw Dead Or Alive, which was possibly even worse.
Oh, and I never ever turn movies off before finishing them, but I got over halfway through Dead Man and then just threw my hands in the air and turned it off. Nothing I missed could have possibly redeemed how painfully terrible it was. Fade to black!
Last but not least, Domino. You know, when the cover of a movie shows three people holding big guns, I kind of figure that there might be a few action scenes in it. Nope. And what is in the movie is just terrible. I can't imagine how a movie can be that bad by accident - which makes me think that the director probably made it that bad on purpose. What a jerk...
And of course there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so. I loved Dead Man; it's my favorite Jim Jarmusch film. I do know more than a few people that couldn't stand it, though.
I expected Domino to suck but watched it anyway, out of morbid curiousity and late-night ennui I suppose. Surprisingly, I didn't hate it. Didn't really "like" it either, but it wasn't as bad as I expected from others' comments and reviews. I even enjoyed bits of it here and there! Go figure. I know I'm in the minority, hehe.
Tony Scott doesn't do much by accident -- no matter what you think of his end product, it's definitely carefully crafted to be whatever it turns out to be. Dreck with purpose, that's his style; that's my thinking.
indeed...and even I waited until I got my Transdimensional Tomato and Caustic Vitriol Shield installed and fully functional.
Keira Knightley is decidedly meanly drawn and unattractive in Domino. If you like her in a way that makes you want to see all her work, then watch it. I think she probably wanted to explore that broad avenue and, well, now she has. I did get really, really bored with extended montages of her sitting pensive, booted, armed, buff-tuff and jaded, dragging on a cigarette like she couldn't be bothered. Hugely overused motif here IMO. I mean, I got the point like the first 15 times you did it, KWIM? Altogether a rather raw, experimental style that didn't go over so well. Still, I'm glad I saw it. 3 stars from me, not so much "liked it" as "both liked and didn't like it."
Count me in as a big Domino fan! If you can accept the intense style of the film then its a wild and entertaining ride.
Tony Scott is THE master of disposable cinematic eye candy, IMO. He always manages to outclass his flashy, music video, Playstation inspired brethren in Hollywood...
His only true misstep was the surprisingly flat and linear Days of Thunder.
I realize that "worst" suggests a single title; I, unfortunately, have spent way too much time seeing films that are the celluloid equivalent of what one would scrape from the sole of one's shoe. In no particular order:
Dancer in the Dark (starring Bjork, the cinematic triple threat: can't sing, can't dance, can't act). This dung was hurled upon screens by the reigning emperor who has no clothes, Lars Von Trier.
The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things: Asia Argento should never be allowed to get behind (and as far as I am concerned, before )a camera again.
Fur: an Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus: The less said about this fiasco the better. Kidman and Arbus deserved better.
Gerry: As much as I admire most of the works of GVS, this is his entry in the "Emperor's New Clothes" sweepstakes.
The Forgotten: Another entry in the "Why Julianne Moore Needs Career Counseling" list. Among duds such as Laws of Attraction and Trust the Man, this is definitely the worst. On an up note: Moore is amazing in Savage Grace which is in theaters now.
I have a list entitled "If There is a Multi-plex in Hell..." if anyone cares to know how much time I have spent at really bad movies.
