Netflix Movie Fans

Any movies you want - but are not available on DVD?

I miss this discussion thread, so I'm re-starting it.

We're still waiting for some beloved movies, but we did see a lot of movies on the old thread get release dates.

What are you hoping to see when it gets U.S. distribution?

p.s.  Don't forget you can "vote" for films you'd like to see on dvd at TCM -- enter the name of the film and on that movie's page you'll see the "home video vote" box in the right margin.

You can often "cast your ballot" at Amazon, also, by asking to be notified when a movie is going to be released.

And, of course, Netflix tells us that they pass on statistics about how many people "save" a movie to the studios.

Scorsese documentaries Italianamerican and American Boy: A Profile of Stephen Prince

From Filmforum:

In Italianamerican (1974) — “the best film I ever made; it really freed me in style” — the director conducts a freewheeling interview with his parents, the late Catherine and Charles (né Luciano) Scorsese, in their walk-up on Elizabeth Street (now the trendiest block in “NoLita,” then the “mean streets” of his early films), reflecting on 40 years of marriage, everything from courtship to whose mother was the better cook.

In American Boy (1978), Scorsese and cinematographer Michael Chapman (who also shot Taxi Driver, The Last Waltz and Raging Bull) film a raucous autobiographical performance by Steven Prince (Taxi Driver’s unforgettable gun/drugs/Cadillac salesman “Easy Andy”) with his recollected life stories — interspersed with faded 8mm flashbacks and encompassing army brathood, draft-dodging, heroin abuse, a turbulent stint as a road manager for Neil Diamond, even murder — providing a blackly comic mirror image of Travis Bickle. With two of his yarns apparently lifted wholesale by Tarantino (in Pulp Fiction) and by Richard Linklater (in Waking Life), and himself a physical and spiritual prototype for Steve Buscemi’s screen persona, Prince is a movie icon — once removed.

Well, now, actually this would be "shame on you, MGM," since Netflix isn't responsible for letting this one go out of print.

I would like to see this again.
Did anybody list Wings yet?

I loved Wings. I have a video of it I taped off of TCM. (you can have my vcr when you pry it from my cold dead grasp) The end dogfight was totally incredible! One can see where this movie inspired George Lucas. I once read a review of this film by a well respected movie critic who got the plot and characters so wrong that I had to wonder if the reviewer had actually SEEN the film! BUT... Here's a funny story... my middle child (now almost 19 and a budding movie director) saw this with me and his Pawpaw when he was around 3 years old. Chris (my kid) was inconsolable after the death of a major character. Pawpaw had to explain that that actor went on to make movies in the sound era (unlike the 2 "real" leads) That actually calmed Chris down, so all's well that ends well:)

Coming on DVD and Blu-Ray January 24 2012!

Dark Secret of Harvest Home
I want The Satan Bug!!!

Killer artwork!

Apparently there is a Danish R2 DVD of it although none of the usual suspects seem to stock it.

Knalds...can you make some phone calls?
Wow, I had no idea, but you're right. Only problem is that it's out of print most places and it was released by "Midget Entertainment", a company that usually releases really crappy versions. I have a 2-disc set of "Fawlty Towers" from them and the picture quality leaves a lot to be desired.

I'm baffled as to how this can be released in Denmark but not the US...
3 movies. Joyu Rei (ie Don't Look Up or Ghost Actress by Hideo Nakata) Wizard of Speed and Time (Mike Jitlov directed) and Twice Upon a Time (exec produced by George Lucas) Unfortunately, none are on dvd and the vhs are out of print (I DO have the two time titled movies on vhs luckily) I don't know if Joyu Rei was even ON video! Why these movies are lost in the copyright or whatever limbo I don't know. But I wish the powers that be would get off their stubborn butts and FIX it!
