Good post, JG, as it led me to finding one of my favorite "Daniel Day-Lewis films", Eversmile New Jersey. Not a great one, but a low budget, quirky film foreshadowing greater moments from Mr. Day-Lewis:
From the movie, "Sweet and Lowdown".
imdb Uma bio
Uma Thurman was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1970 into a highly unorthodox and Eurocentric family -- her mother is a European socialite and former model, her father one of the nation's foremost Buddhist scholars. As a result, hers was a household in which the The Dalai Lama was an occasional guest; she and her siblings all have names deriving from Buddhist mythology; and Middle American behavior was little understood, much less pursued.
Happy BD, Mary Astor!
What would you say is her best performance, JG? Your post inspired me to check out Midnight (1939), but even by then she was doing supporting roles. Looks like a good one though:
I like her in Dodsworth -- largely because she's such a fox in that -- and, of course, in The Maltese Falcon.
