A Netflix Community

What the Fuck? I downloaded "Fear of a Black Hat" and the entire movie is censored! It's even rated "R"! It's not just words, it's gestures too. It's like watching George Carlin with no sound. If I were the makers of this film I'd be pissed off! I find it personally insulting that either Netflix or Starz is treating us like children. I don't know if the DVD is the same, but don't take my word for it, check it out for yourself. It's right in the beginning. Are there any other films that anyone has run into with this same problem?

Apple iTunes to surpass Walmart's CD only sales: http://blogs.moneycentral.msn.com/topstocks/archive/2008/02/27/appl...

Walmart censored, and the free market is reacting against the practice.

Apple iTunes to surpass Walmart's CD only sales. Walmart censored, and the free market is reacting against the practice.

Is that the case, or is the market just naturally moving towards on-line downloads?

If you wanted to hear "Rape me" by Nirvana, and the only selection you had is Walmarts' censored version "waif-me", what would you do? Naturally you'd shop somewhere else - hence the free market "reacted".
Netflix's choice to use StarZ, and their censorship methods, may ultimately hurt overall business for them
So, is it STarz or Netflix that is censoring the content. I'm confused.

Both. Netflix uses Starz for instant viewing.

Both
So, are you saying that Netflix actively censors (edits) the movies? Or are you implying that by partnering with Starz, Netflix is somehow complicit in this scourge you're championing?

I personally do not think Netflix is censoring movies (rent Shortbus sometime if you still have doubts) and I'm glad that they offer titles through Starz. If indeed Starz is offering edited content, I'm certain they'd be doing it with or without Netflix's partnership.

No, I did not say Netflix edits movies. Let me explain this as simply as I can.
Netflix links paying customers to Starz.
StarZ movies are censored.
Netflix is being complacent about the censored movies they linked from Starz.
Netflix has MANY complaints from their paying customers about this issue. (Google it)
Netflix needs to correct this issue of censorship, or they will be known as a enabler of the censorship by linking StarZ to their paying customers.
Netflix should not use Starz if censorship continues.

I'm confused.
I instant watch'ed Joe Rogan Live, it was completely adult material, nothing was bleeped.
I've also rented A hole in My Heart off Netflix and it's crazy how explicit it is, it has footage of a labiaplasty!
Netflix needs to correct this issue of censorship
Does Netflix need to correct the issue of edited Starz movies, or does Starz need to correct their own issue?
Nobody has mentioned that it's probably the studio that has provided the edited version to Starz who has in turn provided it to Netflix. I've never known a cable network to be in the practice of editing material that ultimately doesn't even really belong to them in the first place. They (Starz) are, after are, really just renting a title themselves (for rebroadcast) for a certain amount of time.

Good points. I too have watched other movies and didn't see anything else censored. If I hadn't Googled the subject and seen so many complaints, I wouldn't have made a fuss. I mean, the movie "Bong Water" was so stupidly edited that it was insulting.

"I mean, the movie "Bong Water" was so stupidly edited that it was insulting."

I find many movies that are so stupidly edited they are insulting, and that's when they first get released! Hell, the very existence of some movies insults me.

Not to get too off topic here, but seriously, do we really need this movie Push? It's the exact same crapfest we saw last year with Hayden Christensen's Jumper. Same exact movie. Now that insults me.
