My favorite is Phantom of the Paradise. It has some of Paul Williams best songs, and acting. Deals with the devil, drugs, dark humor, who could ask for anythig more?
Well it's a tricky question (or I overthink things). For started what exactly classifies something as a "cult classic". I watch tons of obscure films, and most of them have small but dedicated groups of followers. Are these cult films because they're obscure, or do the fans of these films have to be particularly obsessive or cult-like about it IE: Rocky Horror. I'm not sure I really know what the fan base for a lot of the movies I watch is like. Furthermore asking me to pick out favorites is a difficult process, I don't like to compare films as better than others, there are simply films I like and films I don't.
I like tv series of horror shorts from the 80's....like the hitchhiker is my absolute favorite. also tales from the crypt and there's a slew of other knock-off's. love 'em.
I sat down and made a basic alphabetical list although more titles seem to pop in to my head even while writing a list:
Beauty and the Beast (Cocteau)
Billy Jack
Black Sunday=Barbara Steele horror flick
Detour
Gun Crazy=the original with John Dahl and Peggy Cummings
Johnny Guitar
The Little Shop of Horrors=a young Jack Nicholson was in it
Man of the West=Gary Cooper western. Famous for the Julie London striptease
The Nutty Professor=Jerry Lewis and a young Stella Stevens
Pretty Poison=Tuesday Weld and Anthony Perkins
Up in Smoke=by far my favorite Cheech and Chong movie
Where's Poppa?
Gah. I was hoping that Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus would be an instant cult classic, but to my dismay, it wasn’t. Man the movie would have been better if they had Debbie Gibson singing for the whole 95 minutes, instead of having her pretend to be an oceanographer with the ability to suddenly acquire any scientific knowledge that is required to solve the situation.
Seriously, they should of just looped “Lost in your eyes” for the whole movie.
