I was also excited about the Xbox\Netflix partnership, hearing there were 12k movies available, I incorrectly assumed I'd be able to easily find a good number of movies I was interested in. Instead, it was like I stepped back to the mom and pop movie shops that are practically extinct. Even worse, the selection doesn't even have one or two copies of the new releases. Like Patrick, I am very disappointed with the selection. It's interesting to see him chastised here. You guys seem pretty darn loyal to Netflix. Sure they're great, but I think Patrick's basic observations are correct. It's a fact that the selection is poor when compared with the BB and Netflix snail mail selection. I really hope the selection improves. Perhaps more competition will help. I wonder if the big cable companies are applying pressure to the movie houses because the more Netflix can offer, the less of a need there is for services like Comcast On Demand and the revenue they bring in. I've found the help from other members here a good source for finding movies. The navigation and filtering offered by Netflix for Instant Queue could be improved to let me search for new movies (because these are likely ones I haven't seen yet) and have 4+ stars (more likely that I'll like them if other NF members like them). Old movies like Clash aren't bad, I love Clash, but it's just that I've seen it five times already. I'd love to see some new Academy winners and recent indie flicks I've heard about, but it's been difficult for me to find many so far.

So, for about 30 cents a day (the minimum $8.95/month subscription) it's not enough to have great TV series (Heroes, 30 Rock, The Office, CSI, lots of Showtime originals, etc), thousands of good movies, classic shows and full-length feature films from Starz -- along with 8 to 10 DVD's a month. You want an endless stream of new "blockbusters"?

For a quarter and a nickel per day?

I'm guessing you've never paid for content before. Welcome to the grown-up world, where people have to make money when they provide you with a product or service.

(BTW, how hard is it to "deal with DVD's"? Just point and click on the web site -- like you do to fill your Instant Queue-- and the DVD's are delivered to your door the next day. Watching one takes the same amount of work as dropping a game disk into your 360.)

Why are so MANY people sticking up for netflix and bashing on the users who and rightly so expect to have a good selection and not have tons of B movies. I am simply amazed by the responses here. Hell if they listened to most of you nothing would improve, no additions would happen. There is one simple reason they are taking their time and not investing what the GENERAL public wants to see, and that because of no competition. Alot of this stuff is free on-demand form your cable provider with better quality etc. Step it up netflix, I can't imagine EVERYBODY doesnt want improvement.

I don't care for all the bashing, either, but I understand why it happens: New members won't listen to what the experienced, knowledgeable members tell them.

On this very thread the first person who responded to the original complaint is a regular poster who explained exactly why the selection is what it is, offered alternatives and suggested that older releases don't equate to being bad movies. Nobody listened. Now multiply that by 100 identical threads filled with more people who just want to gripe, submit their own conspiracy theories and don't want to learn how Netflix works and that turns this entire forum into a "sweeping vortex of negativity."

Eventually people get tired of trying to be helpful and simply try to run off the constant barrage of complainers by bashing. It gets frustrating when people take the time to explain how things work but are ignored. It gets frustrating when the information on the home page is ignored (explains that this is a forum for discussing movies & Netfix, but it's not a part of Netflix, not staffed by Netflix and definitely not Netflix's complaint department.)

Read the first response on page 1 and you will see your questions have already been answered.

You may not like the Netflix model of receiving DVDs and having Watch Instantly as a "perk" and it may not fit what you need. For those who are sticking up for Netflix - we like it just fine and it fits our needs nicely.

Ok what do you guys think are blockbusters? Does it have to win awards? Does it have to have been made w/ in the last 5yrs? What?

B/c i was just searching IW options and No Country For Old Men is on there and you really don't get more blockbustery than 2007's best picture of the year you know?

Now are all the IW titles available for Xbox users or just some of them? B/c if they are not all available yet i am sure they will be. This Xbox thing is brand new so they may not quite be finished w/ it yet.

Now if all the IW titles are available for Xbox then here are some "blockbusters"...

No Country For Old Men
Scarface
Gone in 60 Seconds
Lethal Weapon
Apocalypto
Chariots of Fire
Life is Beautiful
Reign Over Me
Gone Baby Gone
The Illusionist
Seven
Silence of the Lambs (Best picture, actor, actress, writing, sound, director, and editing.)

Go to the Starz play they have all kinds of blockbusters. AND these movies i have listed are not personal favorites (some are but not even close to all). I simply picked movies based on my understanding of the word "blockbuster". Which is that it is very popular and/or is a successful production.
