Permalink Reply by Knall on November 25, 2012 at 3:21pm Wow. It is a good think I have a good number of LGBT friends. If I didn't and I read this thread I would think you are all a bunch of bigots. People asked for an ability to make a choice and you turn it into a thread about how people hate LGBT. Wow. You are all a bunch of butt hurt bigots. Personally I dislike a number of the categories in Netflix and would like to block them, in fact I would prefer to allow my wife to have her profile and chose her types of movies so it doesn't affect my choices, and have mine. I don't care for 'chick flicks' my wife hates horror. To hear you guys talk trying to avoid any genre is a crime. You guys really should evaluate yourselves and seek therapy. Giving people a choice should be an easy decision, you have been given yours. And for what its worth, my wife and I do not have PDA, I find it repulsive myself. You assuming everyone does shows your ignorance, your vehement aversion to their right to chose shows YOUR intolerance. Grow up, and find something valid to flame about.

From the OP, before anybody else even mentioned the word gay:
It seems that Netflix DOES have an agenda to promote homosexuality as much as possible... Since when is your sexual preference a culture like being a Hispanic, Jewish, or African-American?... It's because Netflix and Hollywood are trying to shove 'Gay' down our throats!
your vehement aversion to their right to chose shows YOUR intolerance.
Who said anything against anybody's right to choose? Of course anybody can choose whatever movies they prefer. The problem is when people confuse their "right to choose" with a non-existent right to never be exposed in the slightest to anything they disagree with. Netflix has absolutely no obligation to aid them in burying their head in the sand.
And don't forget, if anyone finds it too offensive to even see the word "gay" or "homosexual," or is offended that Netflix would have a category listing films with gay characters, that person can "choose" not to subscribe to Netflix.
But hey, thanks for raising the "The people speaking out against bigotry are the true bigots" and the "You're intolerant if you don't tolerate intolerance" arguments. Those are always good for a laugh!
Grow up, and find something valid to flame about.
Permalink Reply by Knall on November 25, 2012 at 10:29pm Sure I will bite, lets start with the OP
How do you block a Genre.
Legit question, My wife wants to block Horror. Unfortunately I don't see where the OP mentioned gay, but assume it was mentioned because of the following reply.
"Customer, the one you want to block is under the Cultures category type on the Taste Preferences section. Maybe if you call CS you can get Netflix to list it under "Agenda" instead."
To be honest, I found the Agenda comment more offensive than the concern of the OP saying they don't want to have LGBT films listed as a suggested film or have the category shown. Anyone taking offense to that is adding more to this than is needed. This based on what has been said so far. Again, replace LGBT with horror and this would be a non issue.
Here is a reply noone said anything about that I found rather offensive myself.
"FINALLY! No more of that Latino crap pollutin' my beautiful mind moving forward!!
btw, so according to Netflix, there are only 4 cultures?!"
Really? No cry of foul on this, instead we are more focused on bashing someone because they don't want to see gay/lesbian films on their instant watch screen. Wow, you are really on the wrong page here guys.
The whole thing on the agenda posted by "Customer" was way off base, but considering the baiting I figure you guys just wanted a flame war because you were bored and wanted to feel beat down so you could argue the good fight right? Come on, really?
Wait it gets better, while there was a serious request to not see something they may find offensive, hey gotta love the far leaners, you guys then do worse than he did with the whole chain on "catching gay" and "there is a cream for that" Again, someone says they don't want to see it and that is offensive but the blatant and nasty replies, even if in fun, were way over that line.
The one thing that they did say, and I found interesting when I went looking, was that there is a Category for gay and lesbian but when searching for preferences there wasn't one, so if I wanted to increase the hits for it I couldn't find it. In fact I gave up the first time, and didn't catch it till the second run through of the what, 18 screens to find it under culture? Really? If its listed under a category, then its a category. I agree with that completely. Has nothing to do with gay or lesbian content, the simple fact is there is a category that is not listed under the category preferences.
oh I love this one
"And how about this: Mind your own business and keep your personal business just that... PERSONAL. Don't worry about "them." "They" won't bother you. And btw, neither will "they" affect your children ... other than making them less backwoods than yourself."
Wait he said mind your own business and keep your personal business just that. He is, he is making a choice to remove a type of movie from being offered, again, replace gay with horror, this would be a non topic. He then goes on to say "They" wont bother you. We all have our opinions, and when in HIS house he can like/dislike whatever he wants, its not YOUR choice. HE is just asking to be ABLE to make that choice. Are you being disallowed to make choices? If they even HINT at it I bet you scream bloody murder and tout how repressed you are. Moving on.
"Far2Fragile is a very very appropriate title if you ask me. I think you need a little gay porn in your life to liven things up a bit."
Really? This is a good representation of most of the comments of this thread.
Ohh here is another, lets bash peoples beliefs
"Odin is totally gay."
What if I believe in the old gods? You are now bashing religion as well I suppose. And of course lets add racism to the mix. with this one.
"Hey, you're not from Boone County, West Virginia are you? Is your last name White, by any chance?"
We are doing well so far, we are showing how racist we are, and don't forget religion bashing. What an open minded group.
"You know what I do if my 5 year old is watching Netflix? I ask him what he's watching and if it's inappropriate I turn it off or turn it to something that's appropriate. But hey that's just me."
I agree but if your kid is a little older, what is going to stop them from switching, do you check on your kid every 10 minutes? While you can nix based on rating, why not simply allow MORE OPTIONS. Is asking for more options really a problem, whatever the reason? Apparently if you could turn it into some PC bitchfest it is.
Personally I hate the religion card, but hey, being the tolerant person I am I let the 'bible thumpers' do things their way, personally I despise what they do to their kids, I told my wife that it would never happen to ours. That does not stop me from saying they aren't allowed to limit what their kids watch, or do, or interact with, its none of my business. I don't try to force MY preferences on THEM, I don't STOP them from having the ability to apply filters based on their desires. Are you better than they are? If you think so you are pretty self centered and are worse than those you are trying to force your desires onto.
"Then cancel Netflix and go to that [Red-something] at the supermarket. I wouldn't want my kid watching the christian channel if I had a dish but I wouldn't fuss at Dish for carrying it."
I agree but with dish you can remove the channel from being surfed. I also don't want them watching infomercials or QVC (hell I don't want either of those myself) so I remove them, then again, thats what is being asked for here. Hell if you can have it, why can't "WE"?
"Netflix isn't sticking an Uzi up your straight Christian ass, forcing you to watch anything. You no likee look at Gays? Just look somewhere else."
Mmm More religion bashing, what an open minded group. By the sound of it from this guy, Netflix is like a gay bar. Except its not. Hell if thats what you want, I don't see a reason you can't have it, if someone wants it to be a kiddy playground I don't see why they can't have it. Myself I would love to remove the kiddy shows from my listing, but I guess that somehow makes me a kid hater and possibly murderer. By more than post that makes me a closet pedo.
Now on to your post little boy blue.
"Who said anything against anybody's right to choose? Of course anybody can choose whatever movies they prefer. The problem is when people confuse their "right to choose" with a non-existent right to never be exposed in the slightest to anything they disagree with. Netflix has absolutely no obligation to aid them in burying their head in the sand."
There are a number of posts bashing people wanting to remove a category from their netflix suggestions, just because they said it was the gay/lesbian category they are harassed and told they have no right to block it, and if they don't like it they should cancel netflix and move on. There was not a single post that told me they NEVER wanted to be exposed in the SLIGHTEST to anything they disagree with, they said they would rather not have to deal with it during their selection of entertainment. This has nothing to do with burying their head in the sand and everything to do with choice. Again, replace gay with horror and this would not have even been an issue, but because you, and "people" like you this turned into something much more than it needed to be.
"And don't forget, if anyone finds it too offensive to even see the word "gay" or "homosexual," or is offended that Netflix would have a category listing films with gay characters, that person can "choose" not to subscribe to Netflix."
I, as I mentioned before am not offended by this, or lets change it to horror, would rather not have to have "Horror" listed on my screen categories, does that mean I am sticking my head in the sand, or that I should chose to not subscribe to netflix because they have horror movies? Is it too much to ask to have the ability to "hide" them? You see the word gay and get your panties in a bunch, anything after gay is completely ignored and it turns into a flame war.
"But hey, thanks for raising the "The people speaking out against bigotry are the true bigots" and the "You're intolerant if you don't tolerate intolerance" arguments. Those are always good for a laugh!"
Actually you aren't speaking out against it, you are right in the middle of it. Without going back through I am not sure there was a single RATIONAL post against the person actually being a bigot, but there were a number of posts actually promoting bigotry. Particularly in regards to religion. So no, I said that this thread, had I not had a number of LGBT friends, would make me think you are all a bunch of bigots, which this thread is full of. Fortunately I know a number of very tolerant people, straight and LGBT, and handicapped. You group are not, you are the most intolerant group I have seen in some time, but I suppose hiding behind the "internets" gives you the feeling you can be bigots and not have to deal with it. I sure hope you hide it better in your day to day lives.
FWIW, there have been a number of films from the gay and lesbian group played on my account recently, but I fully support peoples right to chose what they want to see, and want to be offered. I do my best to remove horror for my wife, and wouldn't mind the ability to remove the category completely, or even better to let her have her own profile.
In short I don't think I will come back to this community considering how intolerant it is. Unfortunately this is the extent I have been exposed of this community, and I will unfortunately judge the whole of it by you. I hope its not full of people with your mentality, but I won't be finding out. I find it too despicable to even try to dig any deeper.
Good luck, I think you will need it.

Homophobes, Pedophiles, Racists and Religious Fanatics are not welcome here.
Considering how intolerant you are, please leave as soon as possible.

Netflix should allow us to control what we have visible on every platform we use.
