A Netflix Community

Ok so I know not all movies are available in digital format (especially older ones) but why are there so few good Watch Instantly titles? For example, Netflix has some TV shows from Fox, but It doesn't have House. Is it because the networks won't let Netflix use these because they make more money from iTunes, Amazon, XBox Live etc.? What's the process of gaining new movies? And whats up with Netflix having a part of a series for Watch Instantly, but not the rest? (Doctor Who)

Why cant they do an upgraded service, I would be willing to pay a few bucks more to see a wider slection of good titles. Maby have diffrent grades of the service, free (crap that we get now), medium (older good titles), and high (new titles that just came out((including the box office hits))) if I could watch movies like the dark night the day they come out, on instant viewing I would pay five or so bucks more... But for me to feel like I am getting a good deal they will need to add a load of good movies.

There have been several articles about this and how resistant the movie studios are to this. The movie industry period has been reluctant (putting it nicely) to streaming of any kind. I can't think of the company but there used to be one that was trying to get first run movies through a cable box like apparatus for I can't remember how much each movie and the studios were not for it, even though it was per movie they didn't want movies in the theater and available at home at the same time. Until they get more comfortable with streaming/digital media I don't see anyone getting real far, NF so far has gotten the furthest for an encompassing monthly subscription but I think for now the studios have certain things they want to get paid per stream rather than a flat rate and I am not sure what the rhyme or reason is to it all. With TV shows they have to worry about ratings too and if people aren't watching it live the show suffers, DVR is already destroying ratings and skewing actual popularity add in digital and they just haven't caught up enough to track all the new ways people watch to keep track of what shows to keep where. I think they hold some like House which is super popular to hopefully get people to watch it live, to see the ads that pay the bills.

As it is now, they can charge a monthl sub for streaming of older movies. For new releases, they'd need to charge you on a pay-per-view basis (like iTunes rental) , not a monthly subscription. Most wouldn't be willing to pay $3-5 per movie stream.
