How often do items in the queue get changed to "unavailable"

I don't spend much time looking at my queue.

I've keep about 100 items in the queue and today I noted that about six had been marked as "unavailable". I this commonplace?

Does this happen regularly?

In the past it's happened occasionally, but lately several of us have had a number of titles go unavailable. We've been speculating that it might be some sort of "spring cleaning", but we don't really know what's going on.

i know "unavailable" status changes
can happen for various reasons - the stock level goes down to low ( from breakage/ damage/ never returned); or if Netflix cannot buy more to replace the above ( out of print/ moritorium); or sometimes titles that had a release date for DVD, but then the studio pulls or changes that date.

My monitoring efforts (three Unavailable lists totaling almost 1,000 titles) find that lately Netflix is often discontinuing an edition or listing and replacing it with a newer one. Very occasionally an Unavailable title gets restored; right now I am pulling 5 Adds, 4 IWs, and 1 Save out of my Unavailable 2 list and listing the revived titles in my New IWs and Save to Add lists for June. My older Unavailable 1 list had 1 Add, 1 IW, and 1 Save title become revived recently. (Hurrah! The Middleman has been relisted!)

I have one title in particular that has changed from "now" to "unavailable" to "short wait" to "long wait" to "unavailable" again.

My question is why these "unavailable" titles are staying in our main queue instead of dropping down to the "save" part of the queue. Adds to the whole mystery of the thing.

I had one, The Brothers Karamazov, 1958, that was at the top of the queue about three years from 2006 until sometime before April '09 then it dropped completely form Netflix, was not changed to unavailable. It just disappeared from my queue and from the search.

wow. the 1958 one? that's been a wishlist item for me, and I never even found it as a "save" when I searched for it. I know I specifically tried sometime last summer. weird.

I prefer the unavailable to stay in their queue spots. I wished the saved were also in the numbered queue.

Hurrah! The Middleman has been relisted!

YAY! I loved that show. I'm sure it will achieve cult status once the DVDs available. I'm seeing the release date on the internet as July 28, 2009. Hopefully Netflix will update the availability date now that it's back as a Save title.

I had this message at the top of my queue page yesterday:

The same visit to my queue showed this:

We recently moved a list of titles that we have low/no stock in into the Saved section because we can't buy more - most of them are out of print.

I understand about "saved" and "unavailable" items, Remote. I don't understand why half the items listed in my "we regret to inform you" note are still in my queue on the same day, with "available now" status. Thus prompting my noise of bafflement. (see my post above, BOTH parts)
