I've reached a dilemma on Netflix where they aren't recommending me any movies I'd want to watch and instead they direct to the rate movies page.. but the problem is.. 99% of these movies they're listing are just awful examples. They're either films you've never heard of or they're films you would deliberately avoid (i.e. how are you supposed rate movies if you've never seen them?).
For example: I'm looking for Action & Adventure films but they're telling me I need to rate more movies. However, I haven't even heard of these movies! Just take a look for yourself.. here.
What am I supposed to do? My taste preferences is quite detailed. I've also rated a lot of movies within this genre (and others in genres I'm having problems with). I completely understand not every movie is going to be well known film or a gem, but surely that's where they would start - and after I've rated enough they would have an idea of what I enjoy. Like I said, I've rated plenty of action/adventure films and they're suggesting none.

Other than the "best guess .... " I haven't got good suggestions from Netflix.

Permalink Reply by Carl on September 20, 2011 at 4:53pm The taste preferences has always remain a mystery to me. For example I do not particulary like animated features and told them so in those taste preferences but I still get recommendations on animated features complete with a rating of around a 4. I have seen some movies that they gave me a 2.3 or thereabouts but after watching it I gave it a 5. Likewise the reverse is true whereas some of the movies they recommend to me as a 4 or 5 ends up with a 2 or rarely 3 after I watch it. And I did fill out all those sheets as honestly as possible even revising the sheets from time to time hoping this will improve their ratings
Permalink Reply by Jeff on January 23, 2012 at 8:54am Its brutal...even after you rate them the site resuggests them to you anyway! It never used to do that...
Permalink Reply by Carl on January 23, 2012 at 9:22am A follow-up to an earlier comment I made on this issue is when I do my browsing, they keep bringing up the same movie over and over and over again. I don't know how many times they want me to see "Them" even though I had previously watched it and gave it a rating, and what is most surprising is "Them" does NOT relate whatsoever to what I am seeking.

Permalink Reply by frogmo on January 23, 2012 at 1:11pm ... yeah, too bad I read and use a lot of sites for movies. IMDb, RottenTomatoes, Reddit, MidnightEye and blogs such as jfilmpowow. Excuse me for wanting an extra source of information on movies that I might be interested in.
Gah.. how stupid of me... everyone knows you have to just sift through the Netflix catalog to see what interests you!
