Netflix Movie Fans

Watching instant movies - volume way too low. I cranked up the volume to max on both the movie volume slider and also on Windows. Can hardly hear the movies (multiple movies). Same problem on 2 different computers. One is a new laptop with all Windows Updates applied - running Vista. Other is a Dell desktop running XP-Pro with all Windows updates applied. I called Netflix and they had me purge the Silverlight - did not help on either PC. They said to update my PC. I told them that I have all updates current. They had no other suggestions. I'm on Time Warner RoadRunner's fastest service. Video quality is fine. Any ideas???

I notice this problem with some movies but not with others. So I personally think it's an encoding issue with particular titles and not anything else. You need to make sure to do the online REPORT PROBLEM for each title you have this problem with so that Netflix can work on fixing it.

I see a lot of people using the review function to complain about A/V, which is stupid. Netflix is not going to read reviews looking for technical issues if they already set up a means to directly report those problems.
Did NF change the Report Problem form? I thought there used to be an Other with a text box to describe a problem. On Bothersome Man and another I watched recently the subtitles were cut off but that's not one of the "problems" on the report.

I've also noticed the low volume and I'm using a ROKU. I agree it's something with the movies - not the computer.

Hit and Run was unwatchable on instant. In don't know about the DVD. The dialog couldn't be heard but the background music blasted on and on. Two Lovers was too low to hear the voices but again the music was loud at times. Anyone know how many "problem reports" will get attention?

TimeCrimes used to freeze for me after 2 minutes. I filled out Report Problem twice and also mentioned it on here and it got fixed.

The Last Horror Film continues to have out of sync and I've filled out that form three times.
It's not an exact fit, but if you pick "No subtitles on a foreign language film" for the cut-off subtitles it will be close enough, and we'll get it fixed if we can.

Subtitles can be a tough one...they're embedded in the video and they can display differently depending on the type of TV. It gets really crazy if an older movie has been converted from 16:9 to 4:3 with subtitles in the black letterbox area, then back to 16:9, which cuts off the subtitles. Often a "fix" for one type of display will make it look weird on a different display. Ie: you either get cut-off subtitles or letterboxing all the way around the title (check out Das Boot, for example).

And yes, if you come across a title with really low volume the best way to let us know is through the Report a Problem wizard on the Instant Queue or the Instant History page.
I just noticed Two Lovers is off Instant Watch so maybe they're fixing it now.
How do I locate the "REPORT PROBLEM" for an instant movie - can you plz supply the url/link..?
thx
It's in your Instant Queue, on the right side of the "Recently Viewed" section at the top. If the problem was with a movie before the last three you've seen, you can also find the Report Problem from "Instant Watching Activity" in "Your Account".

Come to think of it, for all the aesthetic changes done recently, this feature should be made easier to locate.
Jupiter, Mercury, Saturn and Mars must have all come into alignment in the last couple of days. What else would explain Pihk's recent spate of helpfulness? =)
Dude for real! I thought I was the only one that noticed the kinder, gentler Pihk. Curiouser and curiouser.
You can put a suit on him, comb his hair, yank the cig out of his mouth and give him a shave, but something tells me he still smells like a pihkal. =)
What else would explain Pihk's recent spate of helpfulness?

The Mrs. is exceeding the quota for her wifely 'duties'?

That, or there's some fresh merchandise at the corners he cruises.
It's just a yin yang thang, y'all... ;-)

"Interesting bit from Auden in his Lectures on Shakespeare; he apparently felt that much of the poetry that spews from the character of Henry V is deliberately bad - at least, lesser than the language of Henry IV, passages of which (I must…"
