Permalink Reply by Jed on March 27, 2011 at 5:05pm Okay, here's a couple of things I would do to make Netflix better. :)
For starters, I am a current Netflix account member and signed up only for the online streaming.
1. Parental Controls: Make it more user-friendly. Make it so you can set a password/PIN on certain ratings, so the kids can roam Netflix all they want and not watch any questionable shows/movies, but the adults can still watch their shows. :) (Use the parental controls on the WII for a template.) Do the same for TV ratings as well as movie ratings.
2. Get some freaking Star Trek on to watch instantly! The ONLY Star Trek available to watch via the internet is the new version (which, being a Voyager, DS9, TNG, and TOS fan, I HATE). :) There isn't even any full-length Star Trek Movies to watch instantly, including Nemesis, Generations, Insurrection, etc... Netflix is losing a lot of customers with those not on.
3. Make customers with accounts able to request that certain movies be available to be streamed online. Then, focus hardest on getting the rights to do so by the number of requests put in. That way Netflix could focus on getting popular shows/movies to their customers. There could even be a "I Wish" button next to a movie that's not available to be streamed online, and when you press it, it could go into a "wish" list and when that movie is available to be streamed online, a notification could be sent. :)
4. When I say HATE foreign films when I first signed up, don't give me a list of "recommended foreign films" on my Netflix home page. :)
5. Update your FAQ page, the parental controls directions were totally out of date! :)
6. Maybe Netflix is trying as hard as they can to get as many movies as possible, but there are hardly ANY popular shows to stream online. No Star Wars, No Harry Potter, none of the Oceans (11,12,13) , only one of the Bourne moves, and hardly ANY of the James Bond movies. :)
Well, that's pretty much it. :)

Permalink Reply by Spindaddydad on January 2, 2012 at 8:35am They already do this. Popularity and demand for particular titles is gauged by DVD queue adds. In other words, if a title is in many members' queues, then Netflix knows there is a high demand for it. This doesn't mean they will/can offer it for streaming though because that is up to the studios who realize that high Netflix demand = "don't offer it to Netflix."

Permalink Reply by Jeannie on February 16, 2012 at 9:18am Netflix does such a great job writing reviews on studio films and distributed independent films. How about writing a story on an independent film from the very start? And getting the viewers to be part of bringing it to the big screen as well as their TV screen with the help of Netflix. Please let me know if you'd be interested in writing about the family feature film "The Heart Sees No Color" starring Councilman Gray and Detective Holley of "The Wire". Check out the 3 minute video about the film and how others can get involved at http://theheartseesnocolor.com

I understand that you're working on a project, but aren't you also herding people unknowingly toward your Kickstarter page with the intent of accepting monetary donations?
Hey, I gotta ask.

Netflix has the vast majority of tv shows on dvd. If you only have streaming, that is a different story. Not all the networks/studios want to allow their shows to be streamed via Netflix, at least not for the amount of money that Netflix can afford to pay them.
