Lenny--Dustin Hoffman & Valerie Perrine bio pic about Lenny Bruce the controversial comedian.  Good film.

Lenny - Dustin Hoffman is brilliant. But he's not Lenny Bruce. The film treats him as a nebbish martyr. Of course, it has been said that Lenny died for our sins. But that's not why he did what he did. You're better off seeing the documentaries made of his life, including the unfortunate film record of his penultimate nightclub performance -- which, despite its disturbing digressions and longeurs, features a coupla moments that have come close to assassinating me. Best of all, one should eschew movies entirely and go to the original audio material.

Once again, Sev is right on point.  Listen to his sage advice.

TABLOID Errol Morris' account of a genius beauty queen Joyce McKinney's actions supplying perfect fodder to the UK press after she allegedly kidnaps and sexually enslaves the man of her dreams. Her outlandish capacity for narcissistic self delusion creates endless material for the media, including this documentary. Mostly great fun with occasional twinges of guilt induced in the viewer when they realize they are voyeuristically enjoying the dramatic antics of a mentally ill person.

Sounds like my sex life.

Which would be perfectly fine if it wasn't all over the interwebz.

Contraband   IMDb   2012   R   110 min   Comcast

Formula action picture as Marky Mark has to pull off "one last smuggling job" to save his family, etc. Lots of people wasting their time in this film - Giovanni Ribisi, Kate Beckinsdale, Ben Foster - guess the pay was good.

Otherwise a well made Saturday afternoon B flick. 6/10 for what it is.

Underworld Awakening   IMDb   2012   R   88 min   Comcast

Continuing the franchise - and I kind of got that vibe as well. More of the same and not much plot advancement. I like this series and would have preferred the obvious plot of the next film combined into this one. Would have made it more enjoyable. Instead there's a lot of running around and shooting, biting - all for very little story. 5/10 for me and I hope they do better next time.

I only live about 20 miles from the border.  On a quiet night, when the wind is from the west - you can almost hear the screams banjos.

Wings of Desire--Wim Wenders film about an angel drifting through post war Berlin falls in love and wants to become human.  I enjoy parts of this, though it gets a little long.  It's one of those films that might have worked better for me had it been a bit shorter, but I did like the way it's shot, parts of Berlin, and has a lot to say, though a bit nebulous.   It was introduced last night by Debra Winger on TCM, she still looks healthy & young and it was good to see her again.
