Then there is part 2: Faraway, So Close.

Both exhibit such beautiful cinematography as to excuse most of Wender's indulgences.  Both are close to 10/10 for me.

You do realize Wings of Desire was remade as City of Angels, right?

I saw some of the reviews on NF which alluded to that.  I didn't know that until then.  I tried to watch City of Angels once, but it wasn't for me.

It's not for anyone. A terrible remake.

Dumbed down, with all the important themes thrown out - perfect for the moronic American audience.  Custom made.

"Wish you were here"  '87 Brit.  w/ Emily LLoyd

Delightful (?) film of promiscuous teen (E. Lloyd)_ in seaside '50's Brit. town . Not for all tastes, but.....

I loved it. Memorable lines "Mr. Stinky Fingers" and "up your bum".+ many others     4 1/2 Stars

1st. seen on big screen in the 80's

The Women on the Sixth Floor

4 Stars

An employer of a Spanish maid in his household begins to sympathize and become friends with her and her "maid" friends.

The Women on the 6th Floor

The Women on the 6th Floor got 4 stars from me too.

Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon (2003)=very good film on the making of the classic 1973 rock album that features interviews with band members on how they came up with the ideas and chords for the famous songs, intercut with them playing the songs.

At 49 minutes long, Dark Side is concise yet comprehensive and has twenty-plus minutes of good bonus features.

4-plus stars.  A good film for a night when you only have limited time available but want to watch something good and entertaining.

Good doc - especially if you love the music.

Something the Lord Made

5 Stars

HBO has made some really good Bio based films which I have enjoyed. This is the story of Valerie Thomas who became the lab tech for Dr. Blalock who pioneered heart Surgery in the late 1940's. He contributed greatly to this groundbreaking research at a time that was filled with racism and unequality.

Something the Lord Made

Good movie - I thought they (the screenwriters) went too easy on the racists, tho.  Alan Rickman laid down an epic quality performance.

Bread and Roses (2000)

3/5 Stars

Based the "Justice for Janitors" union movement which took place in L.A. in the late 90's the film also interweaves what I assume is a fictional account of Maya, a Mexican woman who enters the U.S. illegally and gets involved in the struggle. Whereas the labor issue is resolved in the film, Maya's and her family's story comes to a rather abrupt end. Good acting for the most part, especially the scene where Maya's sister reveals how she manages to support her family.
