Yeah; I taped all three episodes for a friend who doesn't have cable - but I haven't watched them. What was your impression (I noticed you didn't bother with a rating)?

I'd give it a solid four stars, I enjoyed it all the way through, and thought it was shot well, good dialogue, etc.  Well made series.

The Petrified Forrest

4 Stars

Leslie Howard and Humphrey Bogart reprise their Stage roles in this 1936 film version of the story of an on the run gangster played by Bogart and a dreamer/writer played by Howard. Bette Davis costars. This was Bogart's last chance to make it in Hollywood.

10/10 for me.

Barbarella (1968) Just learned there was a remake. I didn't investigate further. The 1968 Jane Fonda sex kitten romp brilliantly captures the silly psychedelic scene of the time. Why mess with it? Ms. Fonda, of course, pretends it never happened.

It can't be remade.  It'll just be silly.  How can you beat the naked American 60's sex kitten in zero gee?  Anyone foolish enough to invest in the remake deserves to lose their money.

Plus a spaceship with shag carpeting?

I've still got that in the garage.

Game of Thrones--I've only watched the first two episodes of the first season, and didn't know if I'd enjoy it, but was drawn into the drama and intrigue of it all.  It's fairly adult in nature meaning some nudity, violence,  and such, so not exactly kid friendly.  But for an adult and if you like that sort of thing, worth watching.  I thought it sort of reminded me of that Rome series somewhat, although Game of Thrones is fantasy, although I think the Rome series was more of a historical fiction too.  Both are good.

The Swell Season   IMDb   2011   NR   88 min   SD   B&W

Following the couple from the movie Once and their tour after winning an Oscar for "Falling Slowly". The inevitable breakup that was so obvious in Once is painfully and artlessly detailed. Why watch a movie like this? It's painful and quite the opposite of Once, which got 10/10 from me. I remember being so happy that night when "Falling Slowly" beat out the split vote from three Disney songs to win the Oscar. And I remember how wonderful I felt after seeing Once.

Don't watch this. It's poorly made and will mess up your head if you liked Once.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo  IMDb   2011   R   158 min   BD

British remake of the first book of the trilogy with David Fincher at the helm starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara. It's slightly better but I could assign that to the fact that the budget was close to ten times the Swedish film. So, better lighting, effects, retakes, etc. Still think that Noomi Rapace was a much better Lisbeth than the new girl. 5/10

Carnage   IMDb   2011   R   80 min   BD

Four actors spend the first half of this one room play soullessly reading their lines as I slowly grew to hate the two women. Then their Scotch came out and the rest of the play becomes dead on funny. So suffer through or FF until the middle for a decently funny ending. 4/10  Roman Polanski should be in prison.
