What does the Netflix Top 100 List say about our culture?

Angelina Jolie has 3 films in the Top 100....including Wanted.  It made me think what the heck does this say about our society, our culture, our taste in movies, etc.?

Or does it mean nothing?

And only 6 Instant Watch.  You'd think they'd have a leg up on the competition--available in two formats.

This probably speaks to the quality of the IW selections (not as popular) and also to how many people stream versus recieve by mail.

I don't think they include instant views in the ratings.  Titles already on the list don't tend to jump up once they become available to stream.  I think it's just what discs have been rented the most times.  I could be wrong though.

i feel a bit dirty after that list- i need a shower. and although i love indie films, etc i will NEVER understand that rating of "Crash" at the top. Wth?

The "girlie" factor may come into play for both Pitt and Jolie...

and 1 million dollars they haven't updated in a  LONG time - i think that's the same list from when I worked there.

I agree EH - that list hasn't been updated in a long time.  Comparing it to the top 100 Blockbuster on line rentals -- there's a big difference.

Hulu's highest rated list has some great movies on it.

"Yeah, Mingus' stuff has a similar feel - the horn and rhythm sections, anyway. The solos on the Spidey soundtrack tend to be softer and the horn combos far more strident. Naturally. Superheroes don't boogie."

"  Beau Pere, first seen on vhs, was one of my favorite films as a young man. I found her very enticing and dug the entire theme, I guess that makes me not such a gentleman. 4/5 here also. Highly recommended."

"I've seen nine of them I think. 1-6, 8-9 and 14. I may have seen more, but I don't recognize the titles. A lot of spaghetti westerns are dated, but so are many other movies from that period, irrespective of genre."

" Glad to see the whole thing streaming. Watching the sixth (my favorite) installment now. Despite the fall off after chronicling the influential musicians of the 60s, to which Scone alluded, the series remains inspiring."
