A Netflix Community

I just rented "Tropic Thunder," and was looking forward to the additional featuers that have been touted about this DVD release; it was half the reason I rented it. Sadly, the huge list of features that are supposed to come with the DVD aren't on the Netlflix version, and the only two that are, "Director's Commentary" and "Actor's Commentary" don't even work. I've tried the DVD in 3 different players in the house and selecting the special feature only defaults back to the Main Menu.

Does anyone know if Netflix is unauthorized to rent out the full DVD releases? It was such a disappointment, again, since the Special Features was largely why I rented the movie in the first place.

Those special features are probably on the Bonus Disc, although I can't confirm that.

It's not unusual when DVDs are programmed so that commentary tracks don't start immediately when you select them. You select the commentary, it goes back to the main menu as you describe, then you select Play Movie. The movie will then play with the commentary track.

Thanks you guys. I'm not sure if the funny-as-can-be features would be on a separate disc, since many DVDs have room for them on one, but that is probably the best reason why they aren't available on the Netflix version. So thanks photo heathan, that makes sense.

Thatboy, I will try to access the commentaries again and wait to see what happens. I think I allowed a good amount of time for them to load, but will try it again. Love your avatar, by the way...reminds me of my boy "Peabo" who was with me for 18 years; looks like his twin.

Thanks again, both of you.

The studio puts the special features on another disc so that they can charge extra for the "special edition." I remember when they used to be free. Those were the days.

Just to be clear, you must press "Play Movie" on the main menu for them to start. It's not a matter of waiting for them to load.

Also, to the best of my knowledge, NF doesn't have it's own 'version' of DVDs. They get exactly what's released to market.

Thanks for the compliment on my cat!
