While I was never into Dragonball, I'm looking forward to seeing the new U.S. live action just to see what Hollywood cash looks like adaptation-wise.
Click here to see pics of what the characters look like in the new movie. Goku's hair doesn't look all that hideous, but more importantly, they dropped Roshi's shell.
Ichi the Killer is definitely not for everyone. As for hang-ups, well, we've all got them. considering some of the sick and twisted stuff I've watched and enjoyed, you'd probably laugh yourself silly if you knew what gets to me.
I am interested in how it will play out. I don't mind the hair being short personally, but if anything I would maybe criticize the actor playing Goku for not looking stupid enough. You really need the right face that looks like the lights are on but nobody's home and then find that what you thought was deep thought turned out to be the closest thing to arithmetic that Goku would probably reach, calculating only simple acts of will and obvious ethics. Not that the pictures don't show that in some ways but I feel like there's a threshold to cross where this actor seems vulnerable enough like Frodo but not entirely in the stupid sense. But who knows, maybe the man has a good crazy pissed off face to offer later. BTW, where's Vegeta? Now that's a role that should be carefully picked.
A side question though, Has anyone here read the DBZ manga? I'm wondering if it's better than the anime like most manga are while possibly also being less full of filler which is too often not the case. It's like this, I'd read it if it progressed like the mangas for FMA, Trigun, or even Zatch Bell, but not if it were as slow as the mangas for Inuyasha or Naruto.
I'm looking forward to the live-action version. The first live-action Death Note movie was actually really good. Shinobi was beautiful, though a little stiff. I doubt DBZ will be perfect, but I am am keeping an optimistic and open mind.
Any idea when we'll get a chance to see it in the states?
It cannot possibly be as disappointing as the live-action Sailor Moon series that aired a few years back. We lunatics are still hurting over that...
Ok so I just watched the The live action version of Dragon Ball and I must say that it's basically on par with most other live action animation movies. That means it was pretty bad. Oh well. BTW I love that Asians just aren't cool enough clip.
