Let's Talk About Citizen Kane

I'm not sure I see what all the fuss is about. Would anyone care to enlighten me?

I can relate, staahsha. I was dumbfounded the first time I watched it - I jumped on the web almost immediately just to make sure I had correctly determined what Rosebud meant. I was terribly underwhelmed. I think that I lack appreciation for the movie because I don't have a decent perspective of what movies were like before Citizen Kane, so all of the innovations and monumental moments are completely lost on me.

They were lost on viewers of the time period as well. Citizen Kane wasn't recognized as being a great film until a while after it was made.

To start, Citizen Kane was very technically advanced at lowest possible cost and brought some groundbreaking techniques which are a cliche now... I have to say this... definitely not an extraordinary story but was elevated due to its screenplay... really innovative way of telling the story.... more of style than substance ...
Staahsha ... i had the same expression after viewing it.. i couldn't understand the greatest movie ever status...

Yeah, even after I studied it in my film class, I was still underwhelmed. Although I guess I have a more knowledgeable appreciation of it.
