Just checked your rating, an I'm thrilled that you "loved" Jalsaghar!

Hey EM,
I hesitate to mention I'm actually going to the Jalsaghar showing at 640pm with friends.... I will def drop my 2cents afterwards. The schedule is so dense, I might have finagle an out of office day to catch all that I want to see.

Apparently this series is focussing on the first half of Ray's career, so that's why no Chess Players.

I'm going to try and catch the stuff unavailable from Nflix, the Calcutta trilogy in particular, and the bad prints like Charulata.

Maybe you should check out cheap-o flights and come on out-- some company would be welcome!

Cheers,
Kate

Damn it, Katie, I am so full of envy!! I'm on the west coast, and Jalsaghar starts at 6:40pm. That's 5 and a half hours from now. I think I can make it! mebbee, ...grrgrrrrr... tomorrow, perhaps....

Please tell us you'll see it, as I'd like to know how the new print is. It's one of my favorite movies of all time.

Will you let us know what you saw? and your comments? please?

I watched The Chess Players again 2 nights ago (I wonder why they're not screening this one?) and it really makes me jealous that I'm not in NYC at this moment.

While not Bollywood, I thought folks might be interested in the Satyajit Ray retrospective that starts this week at the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center in NYC. Personally, I am super excited!

http://www.walterreadetheater.com/wrt/onsale/satyajit/program.html

Many of his films not available on Netflix will be screened as well as new prints of stuff that Netflix has that is in frustratingly poor condition. Being the film geek that I am, I think it's worth a trip to NYC to see some of these! If the Film Society of Lincoln Center literature is to be believed, some of these flicks aren't often screened outside of India. Probably they aren't often screened at all.....

Hope to see you on West 65th Street!

Welcome to Bollywood and Indian Film group, Avo! I

To everyone, I apologize for being so slack on the welcomes. Sometimes I get busy, so if I may, WELCOME ALL!

New to this group, I am a huge fan of Hindi movies 70's 80's and 90's. Sholay is my all time fav movie and Dharmendra my fav actor. I have been a fan since I saw Dus Numbri in 1983 for the first time.
