That's a tough one. If I could be friends with anyone it would be Geraldine Granger (Vicar of Dibley). As far as most laughs go, it'd be a toss-up between Edina Monsoon (AbFab) and Diana Trent (Waiting for God).

Jeff is a good choice.

Some have said Coupling is a British 'Friends', but I never got 'Friends'. Coupling, on the other hand, is a very funny story about 3 men & 3 women (late 20s/early 30s) in London. Jack Davenport is probably the best known actor. The writing and cast are very good. It's available for instant viewing, so you can watch it without taking much of a risk.

Coupling and Queer as Folk (US) are the last two shows I regularly watched.
