Star Blazers is a little too kiddie for me. But then I was watching Shin-Chan on the Funimation channel the other day, so there. Party, Party, Join us, Join us...
Comment by David on April 26, 2013 at 8:50am I was over at Hulu.com last night and they had a bunch of anime. I started watching Star Blazers. I have the first episode on VHS (remember those?), but have not seen subsequent episodes, and Hulu had them so it was fun to see them. I made it up to ep. 5. The streaming is a bit jerky at times, and there's commercials, but that's fine. Star Blazers is old school anime, so don't expect modern CGI, high tech effects, but what you can expect is some very colorful anime, that's fairly complex in story and detailed artwork. It's space opera very much like Star Wars. Also it has a nice soundtrack that ranges in orchestration to jazz to new age music. There are a lot of interesting things there.
They also have Roughnecks, which is a cartoon taken after the Starship Troopers SF novel by Heinlein. They are pretty interesting as well. Also they had Kimbra, The White Lion, which I haven't seen, but I'm anxious to check out an episode as they were created by Osamu Tezuka, sort of the Japanese Disney. He also created Astro Boy, but some other cartoons like Space Firebird, and some others.

Curious short from a collaboration of Masters with very different styles.
