Netflix Movie Fans

There are many, many movies that celebrate the greatness of America. But all too often, these movies are overlooked in the rush to condemn the United States.

It is my hope that this group will help foster a familiarity with movies that depict at least in part, a positive image of the world's last best hope; America.

My very first recommended pro-American movie is a picture that I was made aware of by author Simon Winchester.

It's called The Ruggles Of Red Gap. Unfortunately, this movie is not included in the Netflix library. I had to seek it out on VHS tape from a local brick and morter rental shop that has since gone out of business...thanks in part to our beloved Netflix and it's competing mail-order video outlets.

Anyways, The Ruggles Of Red Gap (1935) stars Charles Laughton and was directed by Leo McCarey. This little comedy manages to cram the very idea of American spirit, independence and self-reliance into its story. And it dares to ask the question: What did Lincoln say at Gettysburg?

Not only is this movie a teacher of what America is about, it also happens to be hilarious.
Man wish Netflix had it...
