I just finisished watching the movie "White", part of the "three colors trilogy-Red, Blue, and White". I loved "Red", and "Blue", but I could not understand the ending of "White". Does anyone think they know what happens at the end?

Before The Rain (Milcho Manchevski, 1994) is FINALLY coming out on DVD next month (6/24) from Criterion. I love this film: 3 crosscutting stories that end up tying together in the end. There are others to name, but I see it as a clear forerunner of Inarratu's work (Amores Perros, Babel), and other recent 'converging storyline' films.
Not the main point/story, but it also ended up enlightening me to the underlying LONG term strife in the former Yugoslav states.

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly * * * * *
This is a really enjoyable French film both visually and story. I don't find too many French films that spin this well. Check it out.

Anybody know where I can buy, rent or steal a copy of the 1941film "47 Ronin" by Mizoguchi?
Preferably with English subtitles or voice-over. It's black and white of course.

Anybody see Carol's Journey and want to discuss? I thought it was very superficial, wanted more depth from the story. It was in my queue so I'm glad I caught it on instant watch. I like that feature but the picture on my TV is much better than my computer.

I would agree w/ Chad about Amelie -definetly the about the cinematopraghy and point9s) of view -but what was amazing was the fluidity of it all - don't know about avant-garde, but certainly had plenty to bring joy to the viewer...Chouchtomato was r0ight on regarding Almodovar's work/style is always attention grabbing...visually and styliscaly
Women on the Verge was almost perfect...The sexuality is totlally different than "our" concept of sexuality in the states...more open and free -not so confined.

I just recently watched " Raise the Red Lantern" because of all the sparkling reviews..... I was quite disappointed !!!!! .... It started out with GREAT Promise for me, I was very interested. But as the film moved on it got worse and worse..... I didn't care about any of the characters.... they were all just so flat.. By the end scene ... I was like Oh Well !
