Hey, good to see you back....had to disappear for a few days myself.

If you want foriegn horror, just go through that stack of reviews of mine....

I'm actually interested in trying to track down some African horror. Apparently, there's a big SOV horror market in Africa, but I can't find an importer of A-horror. With Asian horror marking a decade in North America, it's become old hat. I'm hoping that the alieness of African culture and folklore might pick-up where Asian horror wanned.

Not back yet! The bar is Wed and Thurs!

I'm looking forward to see the Pakistan zombie movie...

The one from Mondo Macabro? I just created a list for those those guys and queue that one. Curious to see what sort of cultural spin, if any, they put on the genre.

So, when do you get the results from the bar?

HELL'S GROUND: my review for that Pakistani zombie movie...

I have seen a couple African horrors but they were bootleg and I wouldn't call what I saw scary. Only in NY. I like the movies but they could be done better. Some of the good African actors are being held back by bad directors.. I have yet to see a truly frightening African horror.

Without a doubt, best foreign horror for me is Pan's Labyrynth.

That movie really surprised me. I was expecting the usual adult fairy tale but got one of the greatest fantasy films I've every seen. Even though it is anchored in the reality of war, the fantasy elements fit effortlessly into the story. A very intense and brutal film.

When I think of horror films, I usually think Asian, but France has done a few good ones that I would recommend.
Eyes Without A Face is one of my favorite horror films. Its about a plastic surgeon who is obsessed with restoring his daughter's beauty after a car accident that he caused. You can imagine what he does to repair her disfigurement. Its truly chilling and visually beautiful.
Another good one is Le Boucher. A woman falls in love with a butcher who may/may not be taking his profession to the streets.

Four suggestions: Blind Beast
Onibaba
Demonlover
The Face of Another

all very odd, all worth watching......Anyone else see any of these?

I've seen Blind Beast and Demonlover. Blind Beast was definitely one of the odder movies I've seen, but for some reason it just left me cold--to me it was not real sexy, not real scary, and the protagonist whining about his blindness being all his mother's fault just annoyed the hell out of me--couldn't develop any empathy at all and I ended up just wanting the two loonies to hurry up and kill each other and put me out of my misery. LOL

Loved Demonlover, though. Rather a guilty pleasure for sure! I loved Chloe Sevigny and Gina Gershon in that movie.

Horror as in bloody and gory or horror as in scary as hell, but no monsters?

Nightwatch is the latter.
