Guess its not such breaking news then huh :)
But Nic Cage?? Will Smith?? Really? Neither are who I would envision as the main character in my opinion..Especially Smith, seeing as though he reigns as the goody gumdrop of celebrities. This character needs a crap load of grit...And yes they will soften it up, its the U.S afterall.
If there's a successful foreign film, chances are the big-wigs in Hollywood are going to see a chance to make a buck. Personally, I don't mind remakes. The original filmmakers will generally make more money by selling the remake rights then they would from a theatrical run of their original film.
Will it suck? Who can say. Odds are that it will, but with that much starpower behind it the powers that be will try to make the best, albeit accessible, film they can. I don't think Spielberg sets out to make garbage. Films like INDY 4 have been flukes in last decade and a half.
I agree. The casting is all wrong. If I was forced to cast an american version with a gun to my head, I would probably pick someone like Willem DaFoe or Mickey Roarke in the lead. I think either of them would be MUCH more believable.
Oh yeah, I just about gagged. I was really hoping there was another Korean film called 'Oldboy'! But my hopes were dashed. I can understand the American remakes of the Asian horror movies and they are pretty tolerable, but I think the whole strength and feeling of this movie is going to be sooooo lost.
