Netflix Movie Fans

I recently purchased a samsung bd-p1590 and have just started trying to stream movies through netflix instant play. Unfortunatley however, I have recently had a lot of problems with the movies freezing mid-play. Does anyone have any suggestions on potential fixes for this problem? I performed a firmware upgrade when first plugging the device.

Are you sure its not your network connection?

Try testing it at

A slow or intermittent connection would not result in a movie freezing.
As you suggest, testing the connection speed is probably the best place to start. The 2 links you provided are useful. However, I previously tested my network connection & it's at ~ 23 MB/s (exceptional, really). Most of the others having problems with streaming on the Samsung BD-1600 report connection speeds of < 6 MB/s. In this case, connection speed is NOT the problem. Thanks for your input, but the problem is elsewhere ... I only wish I knew if it's from Netflix or Samsung!
This is happening to me too, but only when watching Heroes where the quality level is HD. I have no problem streaming from my computer.

The weird thing is that when i hit pause and then fast forward, it starts out about 10 minutes before it should. Also when it freezes and eventually crashes, it also starts 10 minutes too soon as if it has lost its place.

A short term fix seems to be to hit pause as soon as it happens then fast forward back to where you left off, but it will keep happening.
Exact same thing is happening to me with my BD-P1590.

"The weird thing is that when i hit pause and then fast forward, it starts out about 10 minutes before it should." Same here too.

It's not a bandwidth problem. I consistently get 6+ Mbps.
I'm having the same problem, but my stream freezes at 4 minute intervals. Much of the time Netflix works fine, but we seem to have this problem more on weekend nights--leading me to believe that it might be an issue with Netflix servers. Here is what happens when we have the freezing problem:

We are able to select a film just fine, and it appears to play just fine, but the clock on our Samsung player does not advance, and after about 4 minutes the movie stops pauses, and we cannot rewind or advance the movie. The only thing we can do is press stop, and then play the movie again. At that point, the movie starts up four minutes before the time when it froze.

We finally called Netflix last night and a man named John advised us that the problem was probably with our internet. However, we ran a speed test and the speed consistently hovers close to 3mbps. We are getting a high quality stream (just below HD). If there was a problem with out internet speed, wouldn't the quality of our playback go down?

Anyway, I don't think that this is a problem with our internet since we had major issues with the internet when we first got the player and--once we finally resolved everything--our internet has been fine. Also, our player is hardwired to the modem so it's not a problem with an inconsistent wireless signal.

If anyone has had a similar problem that they were able to correct--or even just an explanation for where the problem originates--please share your findings. Meanwhile, I'll keep working on it and let you know what I come up with.

Thanks!
P.S. We've been having this problem, on and off, for at least a month--since November and we always install firmware updates when they become available.

Sometimes we are able to switch to a different title and it works properly, but usually if one title is affected playback is effed for all titles.
I am having the same problem with my netflix freezing. Have you figured anything out as of yet? Mine does then ten minutes behind as well.
Hi All,

Thanks for the many posts! No, I still have found no actually correction for the problem. What I have found however is that if I start a movie and do nothing to it (i.e. pause, fast forward, rewind, etc) it will play through without freezing. But consistently when manipulating the stream it seems to freeze. Sorry guys, that's all I've discovered! And it's not my bandwidth either, I am consistently 3+ Mbps.

That'll teach you to diddle with your stream!
I can vouch for that I have 20 + Mbps
Either Netflix has over sold their ability to stream movies at a decent quality anymore or the system is having problems. I am no longer able to attempt to stream any movies without getting the warning about freezing and refreshing. My brother also uses the service and is experiencing the say issues. Hope Netflix is able to resolve this soon.
