Yeah, would have liked to have seen Scherfig get some love for An Education (could have replaced Cameron), Ben Foster for The Messenger, Emily Blunt for Young Victorian, and Peter Sarsgaard (support) for An Education. Outraged that Sin Nombre didn't get a nod for Foreign film. Glad to see that the horrendous mess, Nine was held back from the major categories for the most part. And that Gyllenhaal nom kind of comes from out of nowhere. And love the Woody Harrelson acknowlegment! Would have liked to see Deschanel sneak in there too, but not sure who I'd move aside to make that happen.
I'm (pleasantly) surprised to see Up get a nod for best picture. In other news, my queue just hit 494 (163 saved), I'll never ever get through this...
Very interesting as usual. I may be one of the few people in America who was not on the AVATAR bandwagon. I thought the story was lacking. Therefore, it will probably get Best Picture!!!LOL I loved INGLORIOUS and UP IN THE AIR as well as THE BLIND SIDE. Glad to see they all were nominated. I have not seen AN EDUCATION or YOUNG VICTORIA though. I thought this was the best role I have ever seen Sandra Bullock do. Has anyone seen the foreign films nominated?
I've avoided Avatar like the plague, so I'm definitely not on that bandwagon either. I thought Inglourious was a total misfire (Christoph Waltz is splendid, though).

I haven't seen any of the foreign ones, but The White Ribbon won the Palme D'or in Cannes and there's been quite a buzz surrounding the Argentine El Secreto de sus Ojos, it's apparently really good.
And though not surprises, love that both The Cove and Food, Inc are up for best doc. BTW, Food, Inc is on IW.
Oh yay...it's this time of the year again....

I only have two requests...one will be impossible and I just pray sanity will prevail in the other one.

James Cameron SHOULDN'T win Best Director. I won't hold my breath, though..

Avatar SHOULDN'T win Best Original Score. That should go to one of the other nominees or even a piece of chalk and a blackboard would be more suitable.

OK, I have one more request....give the Basterds at least two Oscars...one for supp actor and one more for whatever.
I agree with you Pihk. I am not a James Cameron fan in the least. I think Inglorious has best supporting actor pretty much sewn up but I also really want to give a shout out to Stanley Tucci. He was really a great horrible killer, playing so against type in The Lovely Bones. I still really liked Up in the> Air and would like to see it get something. Iam anxious to see THE WHITE RIBBON!!!!
I thought Tucci was good too, but the movie lacked. At this point, I think UP IN THE AIR will get the big one.
I really thought Sin Nombre deserved a nomination for best foreign flim. Great movie 5 stars.
If NF would get moving I might be able to see a few more of these before the big night.

Normally, any movie that makes too much money won't win the big awards, so Avatar will get a bunch of technical awards (deservedly so) and that's it.

Almost always the Academy nominates the worst foriegn films in any given year. Same holds true for shorts.
Avatar will get a bunch of technical awards (deservedly so) and that's it.

From your lips/typing fingers to the Academy's ballots. But that should've been true of Titanic, too, if you ask me.
I know one thing if Christoph Waltz & Monique don't win oscars for their performances that would be wrong on a catastrophic level. Maybe some other people feel this way?
