I really liked this episode! Lots of good stuff. My only complaint is I really need to skip the "Last time on Lost" scenes show at the beginning of the show. As soon as they showed that old Kate and Cassidy scene I was like "oh, that's what Sawyer whispered in Kate's ear" and when they showed Jack talking to Claire's mom I was like "oh, that's what Kate did with Aaron and came back to the island". I didn't even need to watch the flashbacks since it was all answered neatly in the first 60 seconds of the episode. Boo.
I absolutely loved Hurley looking at his hand waiting for it to go transparent. I'm glad he and Miles had that meta commentary about time travel. At least it gave them *something* to do. I can't wait until they do the Hurley flashback episode to find out why he came back (I know it has to do with Charlie since he had his guitar case).
I really wanted to smack Kate when she said "I don't like the new Jack" and Jack said she didn't like the old one either. Step off, Freckles! I love the new Jack (old Jack made the baby Jesus cry) and his "Then he dies" comment about Ben. Love it!
Can I geek out for a moment and say that Jack reminded me of Worf in the ST:TNG episode where Dr. Crusher was trying to persuade him to donate blood to an injured Romulan and Worf refuses? New Jack is as bada$$ as a Klingon! :)
Dr. Crusher: Lieutenant, I understand your feelings about the Romulans, but this is not the time or the place... Lt. Worf: If you had seen them kill your parents, you would understand, Doctor. It is always the time and place for those feelings! Dr. Crusher: *This* Romulan didn't murder your parents. And you are the only one who can save his life. Lt. Worf: Then he will die.
Okay geek off!
But I loved how Sawyer is all Mr. Worry Wart has to be the hero all the time and Jack is Mr. Out for himself. Really love it. And Jack's refusal to help is exactly what was supposed to happen so Ben would survive. Nice!
Okay so now we know that Richard made Ben an official "Other" and that' why he's not time travelling like the oceanic 6. Which means Juliet never took the oath or whatever the hell they do in that cave temple and that's why she's jumping through time with Sawyer and the funky bunch.
I didn't like how Richard said Ben wouldn't remember "all this" because it would have been better if Ben did remember Sayid shot him and that's why Ben worked to make sure Sayid turned into a killer because if Sayid didn't turn into a killer when Sayid came back to the island he wouldn't have shot young Ben and then Ben wouldn't have been made an Other and gotten so much information about the island. Whew! That's making my head hurt.
The soldier mentioned Charles and Ellie so does that mean that Charles is on the island on the 70's so he must have fathered Penny (not sure what her age is supposed to be) on the island, right? And Ellie is there too so Daniel was conceived on the island also?
spider pig - I LOVE the geek!
And i like the "new jack" better too - part bitter, no more "hero- complex" for everyone else, but is now very "Locke" with "the island told me to come back, etc."
I was thinking the same thing w/ Daniel & Penny - that perhaps they're on the island too - or getting close to it in the timeline. You know Penny & Des will be back in the story -could be interesting.
And yeah- I thought too when Juliet was saving Ben that that's why Ben was so obsessive w/ her in the future , and that comment of "she looks just like her" was perhaps actually referring to Juliet in the 70's
and i loved the Richard topic- and excited to see more. But i was bummed too that ben would "forget everything" as i too would 've liked the fact that he remembered Sayid from his childhood.
Interested too in the preview: Ben said he broke the rules - and we know this from Widmore. And Widmore said he stole "his island"- and why was every other hostile but richard worried about Widmore? Richard seems to have way more power. But want to see this backstory w/ Ben, what rules he broke, what happened - and why he would come back for "judgment"?
Last nights episode was simply amazing! When Richard said that if he helps Ben that it would change him, I instantly thought of the Black Rock, the "French Chick", and her killing them. They went in to the temple, saw Smokey, and were changed. Shortly after he said that and I thought that, Richard takes Ben to Smokey's house! Cool stuff! It also makes me wonder, how much memory is lost? When the guys came back from the hole they remembered the french chick, but seemed to not care for her quite like they used to. Not to mention the flashbacks that we have seen so far, Ben seems to have remembered and knew the Dharma people, just doesn't seem to care for any of them as he used to. Granted Ben never really seemed to care for the Dharma people, he still cared in general. So this means that they do remember some stuff just not everything and they also lose their care for their loved ones etc.
It also seems lick Locke forgives Ben but knows that Ben does not know that. Which means Locke seems to be starting to understand how things work.
I also really want to know what rules Ben broke? I know that he moved the island when it was actually Lock who was supposed to. Is that all he did, or did he do something else. Did he actually kill Penny, and that is breaking the rules kind of like when Ben's daughter being killed was breaking the rules? If so, is that why he is coming back to be judged because he broke the rules to make an already broken rule right again? He feels that that being the case by being judged he might be able to return to the island with his previous power? That is the only thing that really makes sense to me at this time.
I'm betting that Ben does remember what happened to him (read: he remembers who saved him). Mostly for the reason that I stated above about what a cop out that would be if he didn't remember anything and Ben needs to remember Sayid shot him and that's the reason Ben turned Sayid into a killer. Also, remember that Sawyer and Kate were on "the list" of "good" people (like the kids and Cindy the flight attendant) when the rest of the people on the flight were not - and Jack wasn't on the list because Ben knew Jack didn't help young Ben, but he would help older Ben only because Kate asked him.
