Movies That Make Me Want to Travel

I want to compile a fantastic list of movies that either because of where they are set, or the plot (but probably mostly the setting) make me want to go someplace.

Hi Friends

We were sitting around tonight thinking about places we'd like to visit in our lifetimes... and realized how many of the ideas for a place came from some movie. So I wondered if there are places you've been that are captured amazingly by a movie (for better OR worse), or movies you've seen that deeply make you want to go to some place...

I'm serious about this -- so i'd appreciate skipping your deep desire to hit up Tatooine.

I'll go first...

With it being Thanksgiving this week, for me it has to be John Hughes "Planes, Trains & Automobiles". What fond memories that film holds in my heart! It was one of the first films my then girlfriend went to see in the theater. It was Thanksgiving 1987, and the film had just opened. We went to see it after our Thanksgiving dinner with the family. Steve Martin & John Candy. Wow, what a winning combination! They re-invented "the Odd Couple" act and added that to a road trip comedy.
What clever writing and careful casting ! Now that John Hughes has past,
it makes the film even more poignant. The film starts in New York and
meanders across the US by any mode of transportation possible. At one point, they end up in sleazy hotel and have to share the same bed! "Those aren't pillows"! A great celebration of family & friends, traveling with a buddy, during the Holidays that drives you crazy!
