Movies That Make Me Want to Travel

I want to compile a fantastic list of movies that either because of where they are set, or the plot (but probably mostly the setting) make me want to go someplace.

Hi Friends

We were sitting around tonight thinking about places we'd like to visit in our lifetimes... and realized how many of the ideas for a place came from some movie. So I wondered if there are places you've been that are captured amazingly by a movie (for better OR worse), or movies you've seen that deeply make you want to go to some place...

I'm serious about this -- so i'd appreciate skipping your deep desire to hit up Tatooine.

I'll go first...

I used to have this as one of my lists on Netflix. I wish I had saved it. They seem to have saved our old reviews. Is there any way to access our lists? We thought "The Leopard" had beautiful views of Sicily.
Coppola took many ideas from this film for "The Godfather" series.
We liked "The Beautiful Country" and "The Scent of Green Papaya" for Vietnam views.

This happened for me in reverse. I watched Bullitt again after visiting San Francisco last year and found myself scouring the scenes for landmarks. That movie has tons of recognizable spots captured in the scenes.

Perfect group for me! I think the majority of movies we watch here take us to a far off place. Give me some time and I will compile a list for you guys. Problem is keeping it semi short...

I loved A Little Romance, Droid. The anime series Aria is set in Venice on a terraformed Mars and is very cool. Makes we want to travel to space.

Also a movie that just makes we want to go out for a really long walk or hike the mountains is Fellowship of the Ring

I have very little interest in seeing cities. Watching movies gives me more than my fill of them. The countryside is a different issue though.

Jeremiah Johnson inspired me to see the Rockies.

Highlander 3 inspired me to see the Scottish highlands, and made me a fan of Loreena McKennitt's music.

She Wore a Yellow Ribbon and a variety of other John Wayne moves make me want to see Monument Valley. Maybe some day.

The Man with the Golden Gun makes me want to see Ko Tapu, Thailand. Will probably never get the chance.

Avatar makes me want to see the Southern Sky Column Mountains of China. Not gonna happen.

A variety of movies have made me want to see the karst mountains in China, but I don't remember what they were.

Out of Africa makes me want to see the Savannah.

Variety of forgotten movies have made me want to see Ayers Rock in Australia.

My favorite place on the planet is Sequoia, yet I can't think of any movies filmed there.
