I thought I'd start a thread where we can ask and answer whatever questions we may have. Got something on your mind about how the rules or setup works? Ask away!
I have a question about the divisions, how do they work? Will it still be everybody against everybody and then just the teams within the division who are competing (pointswise) for playoff spots (i.e. 4 spots in each division)? Or will it mean that we have more games against divisional opponents (like in the NFL) or what?
And EH asked about the team structure, the current setting is: 1 QB, 2 WR, 2 RB, 1 TE/WR, 1 K, 1 DEF, 6 BN. The "TE/WR" is a flex-position where you can either put in a WR or a TE. Note that we have fewer BN positions this year than last. I think these settings can be changed before the draft, but I'm cool with it as it is.
Oh, another question: Are there any points for punt/kickoff return yardage and/or return TD's? If I have Devin Hester, say, on my team, would he get points for the yards he accumulates doing kickoff returns?
As for the divisions: they really don't make a difference, they're just for show. The playoffs are decided on overall standings, and divisions don't have any influence over the schedule of games.
This year, we are going to use a flex position instead of a strictly TE position. That should provide some needed flexibility and make teams with weaker TEs more competitive. This year is pretty deep as far as TEs go, but when you get to 8-12 ranked TEs, you are looking at guys that don't put up a lot of points. For teams that end up with those guys, it will make a lot more sense to play a WR in that slot instead. The elimination of that bench position bench position will mean that there will be at least 12 more good players on the waiver wire. It's probable that half of the teams in the league may not even have a TE on their roster.
As for punt and return yardage, the answer is no. You will get 6 points for a punt or kickoff return touchdown -- but only if it is scored by your DEF. (DEF includes special teams as well). So for those of you who might be thinking you can get tricky and rank Hester, Cribbs, or Parrish really high, don't bother ;-).
I'll add though: if for some crazy reason we only end up with ten teams, I'll put the TE and the bench position back in, and change the nature of the flex (open it up to include RBs as well). I'm assuming that we'll have 12 though.
Spin & Micro still need to sign up, and I haven't heard from Snorii. Those two make it 11 .
Erhm... This is one of those idiotic questions that just has to be asked, sorry.
In the pre-draft rankings, if I want to move a player up a few places, is it really necessary to move all the preceding players over into "My Players"? It seems silly if I really have to do that just to move a player from spot 135 to 110. Especially since I can't seem to find a way to bulk-select. Click, click, click....
I've drafted Greg Jennings and Donald Driver, both of whom are WR's for GB. Is it a good idea to have both of those players or should I replace one with a WR from a different team?
I'm thinking that getting two WR1's would be better than having a WR1 and a WR2, but on the other hand, Aaron Rodgers is a pretty good QB and having two WR's from the same team would increase my scoring from his work, or so I reason. I'd like to hear what you guys think.
Should I trade Driver? I don't really have a feel for what/who I should trade him for, he's not exactly Randy Moss, so should I go looking for another WR2 on a team sort of equal to GB or does anyone have any proposals as to who I should go looking for in a trade?
And what's up with the Waiver wire? I wasn't aware that we had changed anything there...
knalds -
i had aaron rogers last year w/ driver. i had another back up packer as well.
rogers scored REALLY well for me - driver was hit and miss. they're not using him as much this year.
when they did use him he did well, but a lot of times rogers was going for someone else.
hope that helps some.
**waiver wire - yeah seems a bit different this year? last year i could do some pre season adding/ deleting and this year i tried to and it's all dependent on the waiver wire - so not sure what's up there....
Can't remember if we had it like this last year or not. You can put in a waiver claim on free agent players, but they will be processed in a specific order. The order is determined by reverse place in standings (i.e. last place team gets first waiver wire pick, etc.) Looks like waivers are processed 1 or 2 days after the last game. If more than one players has a claim on the same player, the person higher in the selection order will get the player.
This waiver process is designed to give the worst teams a chance at bettering their team by having priority at picking up free agent players (i.e. removes the free-for-all aspect of waiver wire selections).
Not sure what process was used for waiver order for this week, but the waivers will process tomorrow so get your selections in!
if this isn't what's different from last year, then please pardon the interruption. I'm in so many leagues I can't keep up with it. You guys may be talking about the bidding thing, which I don't think we're a part of.
We had it like this last year, except I don't remember everybody being on the waiver wire right after the draft, but that could be because I didn't make any moves this soon. It makes sense.
Aaron Rodgers is a pretty good QB and having two WR's from the same team would increase my scoring from his work, or so I reason. I'd like to hear what you guys think.
In a very prolific offense this can work to great advantage, but in an impotent one, or if the QB gets hurt or has a bad game, it can seriously handcuff you. My thoughts are that it's better to gather eggs from many different baskets.
