Foreign film - young man, just out of prison for murdering a girl
II believe it is French- in the last 5 years -
About a young man who is has just been released from youth prison - he is trying to hide his identity - because he killed a girl when he was young - and his face is well known in the media.
Eventually people start to recognize him.

I realized this is more recent than that stated in your inquiry but here is an Austrian film of a 19-yr old getting released from prison trying to find himself. I don't know what crime he had committed. The movie is "Breathing" (2011)

Found it - it's called "Boy A" (2007) starring none other than Andrew Garfield - It's actually British - is that Foreign? :-)
