The mechanical horse scene starts at 4:07 in the clip.
Permalink Reply by Ethan Bourne on April 5, 2012 at 4:10am Interesting scene, except that the OP claims that the mystery woman is sucking on a lollipop ... but this video clip is devoid of any lollipops.
Permalink Reply by cinemaphile on April 5, 2012 at 2:18pm I'll second Career Opportunities. It was the first thing I thought of when reading the OP, although there's no lollipop and it's in a Target, not a mall.
Permalink Reply by Megan on April 5, 2012 at 9:29pm Yes, Career Opportunities is the movie I was thinking of. I guess the lollipop thing was just a mixed memory of some sort. Thanks to all of you who have replied....
Permalink Reply by Ethan Bourne on April 6, 2012 at 7:26am Just curious: Since when does a Target store have a mechanical horse? Or is the mechanical horse scene supposed to be "surreal" ?
Permalink Reply by Ethan Bourne on April 6, 2012 at 8:36am Whatever. If you watch the scene closely, it appears to be a surreal "fantasy" scene.
But whatever.
Permalink Reply by Megan on April 6, 2012 at 9:28am I think I may have mis-read Ethans' reply....thought it was negative but after re-reading it; I realized he meant that Target stores generally don't have mechanical horses and agree that the scene is meant to be surreal. Sorry for being a jerk and so have deleted my last comment. I do thank Ethan again for his movie knowledge in answering not only this thread but others that I have posted.
Thanks Ethan......
Permalink Reply by cinemaphile on April 7, 2012 at 3:24pm It's not a fantasy scene. It actually happens in a Target and if you watch the entire film, you'll see it furthers the plot as well.
Back in the 80s it was not out of the realm of possibility for a mechanical horse or spaceship to be in, or directly outside the doors of a department store.
This was back in the days when kids could be entertained by mechanical vehicles and their imaginations instead of portable video games.
