"Watched and liked it. My reviews says what I felt about it, but I'll summarize here. A solid, if unspectacular film. that tells the story of a samurai and a farmer whose love seems fated to neveer be fully realized. Circumstances keep them…"

Criss replied to Quentin's discussion 'Recently watched oldies....' in the group Films of Japan
"I think it has to be considered a film for the serious Raizo or Misumi collector (Raizo is really young in this one). It was an interesting premise that never went into the places I would have liked, and the ending was somewhat predictable. Not bad,…"

Criss replied to Quentin's discussion 'Recently watched oldies....' in the group Films of Japan
"Recently watched Kenji Misumi's Ken ("The Sword") starring Raizo Ichikawa. I liked it, but it was certainly more of a character study than a film about martial arts. It definitely reeked of Yukio Mishima's source material,…"

Criss replied to pterosaur's discussion 'What was the last samurai movie you watched?' in the group Samurai Movies

Criss replied to pterosaur's discussion 'What was the last samurai movie you watched?' in the group Samurai Movies
"That's a great trilogy. Kenji Musimi/Raizo Ichikawa. I picked it up as a great fan of the Sword of doom film, as well. Admittedly, it plods along a bit in places...but every scene with Raizo is pretty great jut for his presence. I picked up my…"

"And Zatoichi is great all around. If you can get a chance to watch the TV series, they are really quite good and have a lot more opportunity to explore the character's nuances. I am amazed at how good those TV series are."

Hi Criss!
I have been absent from the site for a while and so i wanted to extend to you an overdue welcome to The Sci-Fi Forum. I'm a Gibson fan too, and I liked your posts. It's nice to see that 'The Wormhole' is thriving and with so many new members! I think though that it is still really just getting off the ground. I mean, some of easiest Sci-Fi topics to discuss are the large franchises (Trek, Star Wars, etc) because most of us have seen them. However, the reason that I wanted the forum to be so inclusive topic-wise is that there is a limit to how much one can discuss something so specific. I liked your idea of discussing books and I for one would welcome learning more and getting suggestions from other members.
I hope to hear more from you -see you 'round :)

I love and hate the playoffs at the same time. I can barely watch. We just wrapped up ours today. Yay! One series down, way too many to go.

I was a bit afraid that you might be too young to remember WKRP from the 70's but am happy to hear that you watched it. Another couple of weeks we should be into the 80's and hope you'll play the game.

Hi Criss, This might be a good discussion in the music group.
Did you ever see the DVD by Don Letts, Punk: Attitude?
In his film, he and many other musicians discuss how important taking on other musical influences were to punk, while keeping the DIY attitude.
