"Finally saw Roman Polanski's Cul de Sac on streaming. It is not a successful movie. Supposed to be a comedic farce but the jokes fall flat and you start feeling sorry for the actors who have to perform here. Each character is more abrasive…"
"You underrate Avalon if you classify it as just nostalgia. Like the Magnificent Ambersons was about the toxic effect of the automobile on society, this film is about the toxic effect of TV that splinters the extended family .
"Watched Killer Joe - fascinating portrait of trailer park low-lifes based on a play by the man who wrote Bug.
Matthew McConaughey and Gina Gershon especially strong in a wild blend of comedy and noirish drama.
"Saw Patrik 1.5 a Swedish movie about a gay couple who want to adopt an infant but end up with a rebellious teenager. The end is predicable, but the actors and the situations make the journey interesting. 4 out of 5 stars.
Also Dark Horse…"
"Watched the Queen of Versailles - doc about annoying rich people whining about the banks who cut off their free money after the 2008 crash. How are these people different from the thousands who lost their homes in the financial debacle? They…"
"Saw Cloud Atlas. Structurally, it reminded me of DW Griffiths Intolerance - with similarly themed stories in different eras. Some people were bothered by the make-up as each actor plays multiple characters, but I thought the stories were strong…"
Keep up your mini reviews. I'm not crazy about Fassbender but enjoyed "Shame." We agree about "The Master" as I hoped for more but I can't take my eyes off P.S.H. when he is on screen. Your comments about "Come Undone" are so true. I was shocked at how much this little flick stayed with me. Check out all the works of Michael Heneke. His world is bleak and w/o emotion and I love how he scares me! I am now rewatching all of "Morse" again! Thanks, Marcie
