how have you been? i've been away and my time on the nfc boards has been sporadic at best lately. ( like for the last 2 months!) yesterday i finally got DSL on my island. also, am expecting some new music next wk. i have a new biosphere coming in, and COH's new cd, "strings" also ordered. how's your music coming along? miss ya! seen any good movies lately?
I understand what you're saying about Jodorowsky, and I agree that his work deserves the optimal time and place to plunge in; after all one can't un-see them afterwards ;-). I saw "The Holy Mountain" first, and while I love it and it's on my list of all-time favorites, I think I'd rather have seen "El Topo" first as then there would still have been a little headroom leftover for Holy Mountain to surpass :-) I had to tell another friend that if he was only going to give Jodo one shot, go straight to HM, otherwise probably go chronologically with the films. Luckily they are timeless films that have taken 30 years to see legit video release, so waiting for the perfect time and place for them makes total sense!
You know, I find it a little embarrassing to admit that I don't have an opinion about Jodorowsky. I am by no means averse to a bit of head-spinning surreality or psychedelia in my filmwatching. Some of my favorite filmmakers are Luis Buñuel, Nicolas Roeg and David Lynch. But the "just right" viewing circumstances have not yet presented themselves for me to take that Jodorowsky plunge. I really don't want to do him the disservice of seeing him in the wrong mood, for example. Maybe my sense that the films need to be seen in a certain frame of mind just reflects a little reluctance or lack of enthusiasm on my own part...
I was just prowling through some ancient threads and I'm pretty sure you expressed interest in seeing Michael Powell's A Matter of Life and Death. It was in a "movies not on dvd" thread. It's hard to be positive because of the weird spacing of thread replies on Ning. But anyway, just in case, I wanted to let you know it finally got released. Hurrah!

You have some interesting music there. "Surrender" specifically strikes me as very video game friendly. I can totally picture it in a beautiful RPG. Music is the fuel for my imagination, and I think it's awesome that you can compose it. So many things coming together...I've always been rather fascinated by that.
i apologize for being a tardy writer! after the election, i felt very run down & sure enough, felt an infection coming on, gradually got worse and 2day had a molar extracted. worst frikken dental experience of my existence. felt like dustin hoffman in the "Marathon Man". i kid you not. my legs were flailing legs in the chair. it was tough as i've always felt i've done my penance in the dental chair. so, that's a main reason for being absent as of late. but to make me feel better, am listening to Biosphere 2 cds in a beautiful digi pak of, "Substrata" and "Man with A Movie Camera". hope you are well. my turkey day will consist of japanese soups. can't chew but that's ok, at least i'm on the mend! and i can still hear my beloved music. i know we are in for a tough yr, but will get through it. be well my friend! ~ladybug~
sad i've been so out of touch. heard some of your mp3's. verrrrry nice! i've been stressed w/the election. i'm working for obama weekly at our town's democratic headquarters and participating in all their activities. dealing w/other crappy issues as well. i apologize for not being around, so many friends i'm unable to communicate with currently.i am currently time constricted. however, MUSIC is still my life - and w/out it and air america i think i'd go mad. you take care G-man I'll check out your recommendations. be well.~ladybug~
sorry took me so long 2 get back 2 ya. been terribly busy but had to say i love aronofsky. all his work has pleased me thus far, but pi has a special place in my heart. prob the music and it's premise is very original. also, i find b&w film aesthetically pleasing somehow. now - not familiar black super mothra, i mean black moth super rainbow!! (must have japanese horror on the brain!) should i wiki them & do you think i'll like them? experimental/electronica music is my most fave. and exceptional rock of course, but it's the experimental that really "gets me where i live". also, i too only appreciate OLD T.D. too! we have that in common as well. prob because it's their best work. i'll have to email groups you need to check out soon. list is so long, i need to condense somehow! ciao-for-now and quick question what's the last movie you've seen?

About Me:
Composer, film/video artist, recording engineer/producer, technological artist.
Films probably stimulate my imagination more than any other artform. I come from a visual arts background-painting, drawing, sculpting. I eventually turned to music as the most expansive and encompassing form of creativity. My music springs from visual concepts that get translated into sound. Electronic instruments are an ideal vehicle for this.
