Good writing, good story telling, terrific characters gets me every time and believe me Star Dreck: The Star Wars Reboot has none of these qualities.

One of the favorite moments from my time in college was when I took a Folklore of Subcultures class, and a grad student did a presentation on fandom, and brought in his mom, who edited an original, pre-internet fanzine that was distributed at cons.…

Jeremy Quinto as Mr. Spock in Star Trek, the new and improved movie. Although Leonard Nemory reprises his iconic role, he is listed as Mr. Spock Prime, and prime me is.

Well, one does not have to be a big Star Trek fan to enjoy the new movie, and maybe not being a fan is actually helpful. Look, I realize it's their franchise and if they want to change it they can. The originator is dead, his son has the right to c…

Thanks for adding me as a friend. My cat Rusty (in avatar) likes TV & loves to watch you-tube videos of talking cats.

Yes I love movies !!! It's my passion. Another of my passions is cats; I have 4. They're as entertaining as movies, sometimes.

Yeah, it looks like the Talk Cinema people only want to hang out with the Northern Californians. The critic Stephen Farber runs something similar down here in L.A. but I haven't been to his programs.

Speaking of the mediocre, I completely agree with your remake philosophy! Take good ideas that were made sluggishly, or as B-programmers back in the day, and remake those well! I've heard Roger Ebert express the same idea. Speaking of Ebert, have you ever gone to his "overlooked movies" festival? I think he holds it in Illinois.

Anyway, I try to keep my opinions to myself, unless it happens to be about movies that I really, really like or really, really hate....

Well, if you ever need to vent about the merely mediocre, please know that I'm here for you. I always enjoy your comments.

I am not within reach of a Talk Cinema, but it looks fun. Here in L.A. we do have our share of screenings and special programs -- I have a tendency to aim for the vintage rather than the brand-new. And, I've been known to take jobs merely for access to free screenings. It is a sickness, but I'm still resisting the 12-step program...
