Of course they are. I've had several conversations in various countries during my years as an ex-pat about this very topic. Third world countries can't afford quality US programming, and it's been embarrassing on a couple occasions to see just how f…

It's not about judging but about learning and understanding. My knowledge of some countries and cultures is through movies. I understand that it might be one directors vision or one aspect of a society. I think most countries perceive that the U.S.…

I really really hope no one in other cultures, is judging us by the films we make.

I checked out you list. Where did you get some of those covers? El Amor Brujo 1967 directed by Francisco Beleta was the one nominated, not the Carlos Saura version. Since my last comments, I have seen or have all but 40 of the films ever nominated.…

You're thinking of "Link+", a cooperation between CA and NV libraries that, quite correctly is limited to books and comics. Beeswax is talking about Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Here in the Bay Area there's often a fee for using ILL (I have to pay $2 he…

Thanks for your suggestions. Our local library system has saved us thousands of dollars in rental and purchase fees. They have an amazing collection of foreign movies. But alas, the well has run dry. There is an inter-library system for the San Fran…

Just to warn you: if that's a dvd you were bidding on, it will most likely be a bootleg copied from the English-dubbed video. It's a terrific movie, but I would try holding out for a legitimate dvd release which would, I hope, have an Italian-langu…

Buy, watch, then sell. I've heard that other people do it.

We don't understand. We're trying to buy it, not sell. Is there another place besides ebay?
April 5
Next time we will.

Well, you could try selling it on... oh, whatsthename... that online auction place after you've seen it.
April 5
its been a while since i used ebay, but couldn't you have set your maximum bid to say um i dont know like 7 bucks so that if someone comes along and bids an extra 50 cents while you're on the toilet that it'll automatically rebid for you?

We bid $5.00 but this guy beat me out by $0.50 when we were away from the computer!

You guys are into the classics! I am slowly learning about the classics. I am more into the recent ones. Though Wings of Desire is my first foreign film and will forever be my most favorite, next to Kieslowski's The Double Life of Veronique. I am into thought provoking, full of symbolism, brainy movies.... but you know... I have lots of quilty pleasure movies I like too. Ha ha ha.. I dig Jackie Chan movies, psst... don't tell.
