About Me:
I can find something to like about any movie I see. Except for Isaac Asimov's Nightfall. That was just irredeemably awful. I mean, David Birney in a toga? What the heck's with that?

My Review - The Conversation

*****

A sly character study masquerading as a thriller, Francis Coppola's "The Conversation" not only broke new ground with Walter Murch's masterful sound design, it also contains one of the best reversals in cinema.

Gene Hackman's portrayal of surveillance expert and paranoiac Harry Caul is a thing of beauty. Sad and introspective, Caul is a lonely man who can only open up during confessional. "I don't know anything about human nature. I don't know anything about curiosity," he says to his as… Continue

My Review - Suspiria

***

Stylish and empty-headed, "Suspiria" is latter-day giallo that is compellingly watchable, not for its substance, but as an example of Mario Bava's influence.

Never matching the promise of the opening murder, the movie seems to fall asleep, relying on set decoration and wide-angle camerawork (which are both outstanding), but lacking the steady ratcheting up of tension to help drive the film to climax. The climax itself is abrupt and the final resolution comes too easily, seeming more of a c… Continue

Thanks for hte heads up. I tooled around a bit on Youtubve this morning trying to find someone else who might have posted the clip, but no luck.

Have you seen it before? While needless, it really does reinforce the bleakness of the original ending.

thanks for the heads up on the new METROPOLIS footage. Just replaced the VERTIGO window with a link to the German news story.

It's been so many years since I've seen NIGHTFALL that I cant' comment on your toga question. Sorry, man. ;) lol

Seriously, though, I wanted to welcome you out to the Classic Cinema group and hope to read your thoughts on that "small set of your favorites" you've got listed.

Howdy, QuickFics. Do you know how to access and post your Outward Profile page? Visit a friend's "Friends" page, find and click on yourself and copy that URL. Then paste it back here in your profile. Here's mine as an example: O-G's Outward Profile. This lets people on the Ning Movie Fans Community Board see how well their tastes match up with yours -- and gets you into wowwee's directory ...

I LOVE "Wings of Desire," BTW. And Welcome!
