001- Gomorrah

The intertwining tales of a delivery boy, a tailor, a businessman and two cocky teenagers form the fabric of this gritty and lyrical examination of the influential Neapolitan mob known as the Camorra. Peering into a multitude of social strata within present-day Naples, director Matteo Garrone's film -- a hybrid of melodrama, crime and art-film genres -- was nominated for a Best Foreign Language Film Golden Globe and a Best Documentary Independent Spirit Award.

002- The Headless Woman

After she runs over something with her car -- maybe a dog, maybe a human -- affluent dentist Verónica (María Onetto) suffers a strange breakdown and finds she can't recognize familiar faces in her rural Argentine town. Director Lucrecia Martel's third feature, a loosely structured, visually complex reflection on grief, guilt and class relations, was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.

003- A Wink and a Smile: The Art of Burlesque

In this titillating documentary, filmmaker Deirdre Allen Timmons takes her camera inside Seattle's Academy of Burlesque to shadow 10 ordinary women -- among them, a taxidermist, a housewife and a doctor -- who are learning the art of the striptease. Under the tutelage of the academy's sultry schoolmarm, Miss Indigo Blue, these budding burlesque dancers are shedding their inhibitions, along with their clothing, one tassel at a time.

004- Funny People

Famous and wealthy funnyman George Simmons (Adam Sandler) doesn't give much thought to how he treats people until a doctor (Torsten Voges) delivers stunning health news, forcing George to reevaluate his priorities with a little help from aspiring stand-up comic Ira (Seth Rogen). Judd Apatow (Knocked Up) writes and directs this moving comedy that also stars Leslie Mann, Jonah Hill, Jason Schwartzman and Aubrey Plaza.

005- Katyn

Polish director Andrzej Wajda helms this Oscar-nominated drama based on the 1940 massacre of some 20,000 Polish military officers and intelligentsia at the hands of Soviet troops, along with the stories of the wives and children who survived them. How did they carry on in the face of such horror, especially when responsibility was publicly denied by the perpetrators? Joachim Paul Assböck, Andrzej Chyra and Stanislawa Celinska star.

I see that Ning has installed the new page number gizmo everywhere on the site with the exception of any discussion threads. What the hay? Does this mean that they fixed the problem with a gadget that needs fixing?

Thank you Professor. I've been waiting for someone to broach that spine-chilling subject. I t ' s s p o o k y !

I think that's almost it. They're trying to increase the speed of the page loads to increase the number of page views. With fewer numbered page links at the bottom of each page, it would supposedly move faster, resulting in more advertising bucks.

I'm betting that this is leading up to the elimination of of the threaded discussion style as an option. We'll be forced into the flat format, eh? I blame Burt Tenzer for this whole mess.

I notice that all of the Official comments are pretty much the same fucking quote.

Well, it's a damn good thing Netflix isn't charging you for that Instant-Watch crap. I'd be pissed, too, if I was you.

It's all good fun, Morgan! We have a veritable collection of conspiracy theories here on this site. In fact, maybe someone should start a thread about them and we can compare notes. :-)
November 14
Don't worry, Morgan. We're just joshin'. I've been succumbing to flights of fancy about this and some other problems on the NF site myself.
November 14
my goodness. heaven.

Just be careful! Notice how Morgan's post vanished after he revealed his theory to us. Might not be a complete koinkidink, if you know what I mean...

his "recent activity" vanished after he had dinged a "prominent" reviewer with a spoiler alert Well, I have flagged an awful lot of reviews for one thing or another... But somehow I doubt that almost all of my "faves" bother with the flags. ...h...

Morgan espoused the theory that since his "recent activity" vanished after he had dinged a "prominent" reviewer with a spoiler alert, this "prominent" reviewer had someone working on the inside at Netflix who then somehow "flagged" Morgan so thing...
November 13
The fact that JRo1987 doesn't review stuff makes it easier to see that his ratings are still posting in "recent activity." I don't know if he's an employee, or how you could tell from a NF profile.

Thanks for the golden Kinski! Did you send it in celebration of Mr. K having The Beast and Evil Face on DVDs releasing this week? I don't think I've seen them but they are in the mail to me so I'll find out. :-)
