My local library has a surprisingly large collection of DVDs. Once I discovered this, I made an extensive search of their movie archives. As a result, I could reduce the number of movies in my queue from around 450 to around 320. Add to that the bonus that I can borrow more than "3-out" at a time, keep them for a week and it won't cost me a penny.
The downside is that their website/database is quite unflexible and sometimes you have to be a little creative to find what you're looking…

The final Roger Ebert's "Great Movies" list is up. As far as I can tell, these are most complete "Great Movies" lists on Netflix.

Both men started their careers with a bang under the direction of auteurs whose films became the epitome of cool. These actors came from unusual beginnings: Belmondo raised by a world-renowned sculptor and Statham was an Olympic diver. After initial successes in somewhat cult classics, both Belmondo and Statham turned their focus towards the action genre. These international stars both enjoyed enormous acclaim for their work mercurial, calisthenic, and inimitable. And both stars have worked in…

I just had one of
those moments, when someone suggested a
title for a movie someone else was looking for. I looked up the movie, not recognizing the title, and after reading the synopsis I know I've seen that movie. I just don't remember anything specific about it, only the moral dilemma that the movie was about and then this feeling of recognition. I don't even remember the ending. How do I rate a…

Well, I suppose it's just a guilty pleasure, but I really enjoy the Ocean's movies. Now I'm not saying these movies are cinematic masterpieces, but man are they fun to watch. The latest installment didn't have as many cool twists and the few it did have could been seen from a mile away. It was fun to see Super Dave as Damon's dad - again, it wasn't a big surprise. But still, seeing all the big names together playing off each other is fun. I also enjoyed the personal digs Clooney and Pitt…

I just finished watching "
Joss Stone: Mind, Body & Soul Sessions". Joss Stone has a voice that is Viagra personified, and the music is not bad, old school soul. But the show is short (~70 minutes) and the editing is off. It's edited like it's a stadium concert with a major rock band, not a small intimate show with a sensual singer.
I have heard a couple of her albums (The Soul…

Well, since there's a blog function on here, might as well write a little. I guess this will mostly be random thoughts about movies and Netflix (the upcoming Oscars?), since that's what this entire community is about. I also predict that entries will be few and far between, I don't have time to blog about every movie I see. We'll see how it goes, I'm under no obligation, fortunately.
I almost feel like putting a disclaimer in, something like "the views and opinions expressed on this…

Do we need a "community" here, and a blog elsewhere? Ideally perhaps both would be "within" the netflix pages, but even if they are not, couldn't they both be merged somehow?
I'm going to copy a couple of my 'classic' blog posting from the Community Blog and add them here, just to see how all this works and whether i think it is a good or better location for blog stuff.
Your suggestions and feedback are, of course, valued.

For some reason, my genres don't seem to fit my rating's at all. I have rated 3265 films with probably around 100 as not interested. but I don't think I have rated any films in some of the genres listed as my favorite:

A few years ago I saw a movie that was about news shows, and how they will do anything for the story. The whole thing was set during a hurricane and they kept showing all the crazy things the news people were doing to get the story. The movie ends with the helicopter that the news team is in crashing, and they become their own story. I have asked so many people, and nobody has any idea what I'm talking about! Sound familiar to anyone?

How do you feel about movies like this one? It's called "Storm Warning", I'm guessing it was straight-to-DVD, and is released by Dimension Extreme.
So, what do you think about movies that are designed to offend certain people... or as they're referred to, "Torture Porn". Feel free to… Continue
