Found this list on the 'net and thought I'd share it. It's originally from the book "1001 movies you must see before you die" by Steven Jay Schneider. There are several lists on Netflix that have some or most of the movies, so therefore I haven't made one there.

Italicized movies are (currently) not available on Netflix. I've striked out the movies I've seen. How many of them have you seen?

Update: I've now included links to the movies, but since blogposts have to be under 100,000 characters, I've had to split it into two posts. Please see Part II here.

Update 2: Since this blog posting has suddenly gained some fame, I'm wondering if people who use the list would prefer that I removed the strikeouts? I just put them there for my own gratification and it's no big deal to remove them. Also, I should add, that since writing this post, I've found out that the list is an amalgamation of the first two editions of the book (which explains the presence of 1012 titles) and the latest edition is the "5th Anniversary Edition" (2008) which contains newer titles. Should I update this posting to contain all the movies from all editions? Please feel free to leave comments. Thanks.

Just tried list of bests. I'm 41% done with IMDb Top 250, and 19% done with 1001 movies to see before you die. Maybe might need to get started on this one a bit sooner than I originally planned. Perhaps once I get bored with my horror movie queue, I'll convert it to a 1001 queue.

I've been intending to do this for a while, but I remember upon initially looking at that list I was lacking quite a bit and it seemed too big a task to be tackled right away. Now it looks like I've seen quite a few more, but I'm still sticking to my complete the Criterion Collection goal. Once I'm done with that, I suspect there will be a solid amount of overlap with this list, and it might be small enough to tackle next.

I'm impressed! I'm at something like 390 right now and slowly working my way through it. I'm enjoying it tremendously, and I've seen wonderful movies I would never have considered if not for this list. So while it isn't the be-all-end-all list, it has done a lot for me. I wouldn't be watching Fritz Lang, for instance, if not for this list.
